Today, we join our European partners to launch NAWAL — Narratives of Asylum, Women and Liberation; an EU-funded project inspired by Nawal el Saadawi, the Egyptian radical feminist writer, physician and activist who spent her life exposing the intersection of colonialism, patriarchy and violence against women.

NAWAL places migrant and refugee women affected by colonialism at the centre of restoring justice from a feminist perspective, through Women's Tribunals. Across the project we will collect testimonies, document lived experiences, create spaces for dialogue, and demand truth and accountability for crimes committed against women by state and non-state actors.

AkiDwA will bring the voices and experiences of women of African descent to this work carrying forward our commitment to centering migrant women's agency, challenging racialized power structures, and connecting local struggles with transnational feminist solidarity.

The project is led by the European Network of Migrant Women (ENoMW), in partnership with Association Olympe (France), P de Potência (Portugal), AkiDwA (Ireland), Asociación Por Ti Mujer (Spain) and All-Ukrainian League "LegaLife" (Ukraine).

For 25 years, AkiDwA has stood alongside migrant women, championing justice, equality and belonging. Together, we've overcome challenges, celebrated achievements, and built a stronger, more inclusive Ireland.

Now, it's time to celebrate this incredible milestone.

Join us as we mark AkiDwA's 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner under the theme:

A Legacy of Courage: Justice, Equality and Belonging.

This special evening will honour the people, partnerships and communities that have shaped our journey over the past 25 years while looking ahead to the future we continue to build together.

From Belonging to Becoming: Inspiring Growth, Leadership and Lasting Impact.

Your experience could make a real difference in another woman's journey.

AkiDwA is looking for migrant professionals and entrepreneurs to join our Mentorship Program 2026 as volunteer mentors.

Over four months, you'll support a migrant professionals as they build confidence, develop their career or business, and takes the next step towards their goals. All it takes is at least two mentoring sessions a month and a willingness to share your experience.

If someone helped you along the way, this is your opportunity to do the same for someone else.

AkiDwA's 2nd National Human Rights Symposium 2026

Building Belonging: Migrant Rights, Equality and Inclusive Futures

📍 Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, Dublin

As AkiDwA celebrates 25 years of championing migrant women's rights in Ireland, we are inviting researchers, academics, migrant-led organisations, community leaders, practitioners, policymakers and people with lived experience to contribute to our 2nd National Human Rights Symposium.
We welcome proposals that explore migrant rights, equality, anti-racism and human rights, with a particular focus on improving the lives and experiences of migrant communities in Ireland and beyond.
