This Black History Month, AkiDwA is bringing people together for a morning of stories, conversation, food, music and culture.
Everyone is welcome. Whether you are part of AkiDwA, a mentor or mentee, an Employment Empowered participant, a friend of AkiDwA, or simply interested in Black history and the contribution of people of African descent in Ireland; come and join us.
Here’s what we have planned:
📖 Your Story Matters: A drama-based workshop on how to tell your story, talk about your experiences and share what you have learned along the way.
🎤 Our Stories: Hear from AkiDwA participants as they share their journeys; from starting again and finding work to building confidence, learning new skills and finding their place in Ireland.
🤝 Mentorship in Action: Mentors and mentees will have an opportunity to meet, talk and learn from one another outside the usual mentoring sessions. Sometimes, a conversation with the right person can help you see your next step more clearly.
🌍 They Came With a Story: We’ll share stories of people of African descent who have made their mark in Ireland through human rights, education, sport, science, politics, music, fashion and community work
💬 “So, How Did You Do It?”: A relaxed conversation about starting again, dealing with setbacks, finding opportunities and the people who helped along the way.
One question we'll ask is: “What door are you now trying to open for someone else?”
🧠 Men, We Need to Talk: A separate conversation for men about pressure, loneliness, work, family expectations, identity, asking for help and looking after their mental wellbeing.
