We are just back from Copenhagen, where we took part in the European IDAHOT+ Forum 2026 organised by the Council of Europe, the Danish Ministry of Environment and Gender Equality and the Nordic Council of Ministers. Here we contributed to a discussion hosted by TGEU — Trans Europe and Central Asia on challenges and opportunities for LGBTI persons in a digital age.
Amongst the issues addressed: the impact of harmful narratives, digital violence, disinformation and polarisation on our communities and advocacy work, accountability for online hate speech and the double edged sword of LGBTQI+ visibility online (from content takedowns and shadowbans to how organisations like TENI have had to rethink how we express online).
On a bright note, we also reflected on the opportunities provided by GDPR to strenghten trans rights in terms of privacy and data colleciton and on the need to reclaim the online space to ensure community members can connect, reach information and supports and just be (as well as spreading trans joy!!).
Big thanks to colleagues in TGEU, Rainbow Ignite and Háttér Társaság and to all the other trans organisations that shared their insights and expertise.
