This is a message in our DMs from a HG patient in Ireland in 2026, talking about her hospital experience.

The theme for this year's HG Awareness Day is: BELIEVE US.

Believe us when we say:

This is not "just morning sickness"
This is not normal
We can't eat, drink, or leave the house
We need treatment
We need mental health support
We don't know if we can survive this without help

👩‍⚕️If you are a healthcare professional, we have specific information for you on our website (and join our email list to get the newest HG guidelines when they are released).

Shared in our group recently (edited to remove details). What can we learn?

💊 Most of us need to try a few medications combined to manage symptoms.

🏥 If you are dehydrated/very sick, sometimes you need IV fluids and medications to get enough control of symptoms for oral meds to work.

👩‍⚕️An informed GP can be crucial in helping you trial medications and keep you from needing hospital care (at all, or as often).

💞 Our private group has other patients and volunteers who know what you're going through and who can help with practical tips. Search "hyperemesis ireland support" on Fbook.

"What is crucial is understanding and validating the HG experience. In other words, do not tell her to try ginger, crackers, or “mind over matter,” and avoid comments that speak to a reality she is no longer capable of, like “You have to eat something” or “let’s go for a walk.” "

How to offer support for one of the most severe and misunderstood complications of pregnancy.
