A meaningful life looks different for everyone. This is Colm's Story โœจ

For families of the people we support, it's about knowing that the person you love is living a life filled with choice, opportunity and meaningful relationships. Nobody should feel isolated and stagnant; Positive Futures supports people with learning disabilities and autism to communicate what a good life looks like and support them to achieve it.

Colm, who is supported by our Lakeland Supported Living Service in Co. Fermanagh is a great example of what can happen when people are supported to live the life they want. Through person-centred support, Colm has continued to build his independence, connect with his community and enjoy the things that matter most to him.

Behind every success story like Colm's are dedicated Support Workers who bring patience, kindness and a genuine passion for helping people achieve their goals.

We are currently recruiting a Support Worker to join our Lakeland Supported Living Service in Fermanagh. If caring is part of your day to day and you wish to be part of a team that truly listens to your ideas, we'd love to hear from you!

This is what choice and control looks like ๐Ÿ™Œ

We believe everyone should have real choice and control over how they live their life, whether that's pursuing creative passions, exploring new places, enjoying a favourite hobby or simply spending time doing what makes them happy๐Ÿ˜„.

Over the past week, people we support have been doing just that. From contributing to our inclusive art project at Cluain Farm in Co. Westmeath with artist Kate Whiteman Art to holidays in Derry and Portugal, a day trip to Kilkenny Castle, a visit to see the new Disney Moana movie, catching up over a Costa Coffee in Omagh, and taking part in a tabletop gaming event in Craigantlet.

These moments may look different for everyone, but they all reflect something important: people being supported to live lives that are meaningful to them, built around their own choices, interests and aspirations.

Thank you to everyone involved in making these opportunities possible โœจ

For 30 years, Positive Futures has been transforming lives. But to continue doing that for the next 30 years, we must continue transforming how we attract, develop and support our people.

Our People and Digital Director Chris Perry reflected on what does it take to attract and retain great people in today's social care sector?

"People are increasingly looking for more than a salary. They want purpose, development opportunities, strong leadership, flexibility, values and the chance to make a meaningful contribution."

In his latest blog, we reflect on a recruitment journey that reduced vacancy rates from 36% to 12%, explore the workforce challenges that remain, and share why continuous learning and innovation will be critical to the future.

๐Ÿ“ข One of the key asks in our Budget 2027 Submission - Our Rights, Our Voices is to tackle disability poverty and the cost of exclusion.

No one should be pushed into poverty because they have a disability.

People with intellectual disabilities and their families face significant additional costs every day - from therapies and transport to higher energy bills and essential supports. These costs should not prevent people from living independently, participating in their communities or enjoying a decent standard of living.

That's why we're calling on Government to:

โžก๏ธIntroduce a permanent Cost of Disability Support Payment

โžก๏ธIncrease the Disability Allowance and Carer's Allowance so they reflect the real cost of living.

โžก๏ธ Restore key disability supports, including the Disability Support Grant, Additional Fuel Payment and Living Alone Payment.

โžก๏ธ Remove barriers that penalise carers and disabled people for working.

โžก๏ธ Expand the Fuel Allowance to better reflect the higher energy costs many disabled people face.

Budget 2027 is an opportunity to invest in people's rights and ensure disability never means poverty.
