Review of the Disability Act 2025 – DLR PPN

The DLR PPN organised a meeting of the Disability Thematic Group to discuss the Review of the Disability Act 2005 and the ongoing challenges faced by people with disabilities.

David Girvan, PPN representative on the Housing SPC led the meeting and welcomed Senator Tom Clonan, and Fergus Finlay, columnist and former CEO of Barnardos as guest speakers.

The discussion focused on the need for effective implementation of disability legislation, greater accountability, and meaningful involvement of people with disabilities in decisions that affect their lives. Housing accessibility and the importance of inclusive public services were also highlighted.

Overall, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity to understand and discuss the review of the Disability Act 2005 and consider how policy and legislation can and should better reflect the lived experiences of people with disabilities.

The DLR PPN team encourages as many submissions as possible before the 9th of October 2026, and is currently working on a draft submission - more details will be sent to members.
