Trinity SMF Europe's First Student Managed Fund. Trinity Student Managed Fund (Trinity SMF) is the first student managed fund in Irish history.

It is comprised of a real-life financial portfolio managed by a team of committed undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of an advisory board of investment industry experts. The primary aim of Trinity SMF is to provide Trinity students an unparalleled and self-sustaining educational resource which bestows upon them experience in business analysis, investing and risk management. In the fulfilment of this aim Trinity SMF will also seek to make a contribution to our community. Thus, while the majority of profits on investments will be reinvested to see the fund grow in perpetuity, a proportion will be donated to non-profit organisations through the Trinity Foundation. The Fund has access to institutional brokerage and research services from Davy Stockbrokers as well as AIB and RBS market research reports. Deloitte provide advice on auditing and taxation issues.

Apply now to join our flagship Junior Analyst Programme and help manage Europe’s oldest and largest student-managed fund!

We welcome applicants from backgrounds and disciplines to apply. No prior finance knowledge is expected or required.

Throughout the year, Junior Analysts will learn qualitative and quantitative methods of stock research and valuation. Analysts will have the opportunity to apply these skills in a real-world context by preparing stock pitches, participating in competitions, and helping to monitor their sector’s holdings.

Matthew Barnes sits down with the short seller who called Enron.
Jim Chanos arrived on Wall Street in 1980, when the industry was so out of favour that he had earned more in three months at a steel mill the summer before than in his entire first year in finance. The first major company he was handed as a young analyst, Baldwin-United,
became the largest bankruptcy in US history. Nearly twenty years later he opened Enron’s filings and recognised the same accounting treatment.
In this conversation he takes us through the full arc: putting out a sell recommendation as a junior analyst while a partner tried to have him fired, being let go by Deutsche Bank over a front-page story about short sellers and turning that into Kynikos Associates three weeks later. He details the China call, Beyond Meat, and the current AI capex boom’s similarities to
the telecom build-out cycle.
