🥋 JUST €195 TO GO! 🥋

Our JKS Tallaght Karate Club members are so close to reaching their fundraising goal, and we need one final push from our amazing community!

We're raising funds to help cover travel and flight costs for our competitors travelling to Scotland to represent both our club and Ireland. This is an incredible opportunity for these dedicated athletes, who have trained hard and earned their place on the team.

Every euro donated brings us closer to our target. Whether it's €5, €10, or simply sharing this post, your support can make a real difference.

💙 Please help us get over the finish line.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed and shared our fundraiser. Your support means the world to our students and their families.

A huge congratulations to our JKS Tallaght Karate Club members who have been selected to represent the JKS Ireland Team at the JKS Scottish National Championships on the 21st of June 🇮🇪👏

This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of all the hard work, dedication, and commitment shown by our students throughout the year.

There’s no shortcut to knowledge in karate. Training in the dojo is essential — but studying karate through books can deepen your understanding of technique, kata, timing, history, and mindset.

One of the greatest collections ever written is the Best Karate series by Masatoshi Nakayama Sensei. These books have guided generations of karateka around the world and remain a valuable resource for students and instructors alike.

From kihon and kumite to detailed kata breakdowns, the series helps karate practitioners study the finer details that are often missed during class alone. The books combine traditional Shotokan principles with clear instruction and technical precision.

Recommended reads:
🥋 Best Karate Vol.1 – Comprehensive
🥋 Best Karate Vol.2 – Fundamentals
🥋 Best Karate Vol.3 & 4 – Kumite
🥋 Kata volumes vol 5 to 11

A good karateka trains hard.
A great karateka studies continuously.

“Karate begins and ends with respect” — and learning never stops.

🥋 Today our club proudly attended the USKF Open National Championships in Phibblestown, with all of our students representing the club brilliantly throughout the day! 👏

Leading by example, Philip Sensei was first up and showed the students exactly how it’s done, taking Gold 🥇 in Kata with excellent performances of Heian Yondan and Jiin 👏🔥

Our younger students Amelia (8) and Evin (9) were fantastic examples of the future of the club today 👏💪

Amelia gained valuable experience competing in Under 9s Kata, Kumite, and Sanbon Kumite — a brilliant effort on the mats! 🥋

Evin Joby put in a brilliant performance in Boys Kumite Under 9 years, narrowly missing out on a medal due to a referee’s decision. He also stepped up to perform an excellent Heian Shodan 👏

Isabella brought home Silver 🥈 in Girls Kumite 10–12 years and Bronze 🥉 in a fully stacked Kata bracket for 11–15 years — an outstanding achievement! 👏

Taylor Docherty-Hughes did brilliantly in Girls Kumite 13–15 years and Kata showing great determination and skill 👏

Seamus O'Callaghan had an incredible day, winning Gold 🥇 in Boys Kumite 13–15 years with a first-place performance, while also taking Silver 🥈 in Boys Kata — superb work! 👏

Eamon O'Callaghan delivered a stellar performance to earn Bronze 🥉 in Kata 16–17 years. In the same category, Xheims Qepi was unlucky to miss out just before the medal stages but showed tremendous heart and determination 💪

Speaking of heart, Alara Lynott took to the mats today in 16 years and over Kumite, showing fantastic spirit throughout, and also performed a lovely Heian Godan 👏🥋

A big mention as well to Eoghan Sensei, who helped coach throughout the day with multiple students competing at the same time — sometimes four or more at once! 👏 A video from today’s competition will be out later on today 🎥🥋

A massive congratulations to everyone who competed today. The club is now gearing up for the JKS Scotland National Championships on June 21st, and after today’s performances, we’re excited for what’s ahead! 🥋🔥

Huge congratulations to our own Marek, Xheims and Seamus who, over the weekend, successfully passed their Shodan Grading and earned their Black Belts. 🥋👏

A fantastic achievement after years of hard work, dedication, discipline and perseverance.

The grading was conducted under the highly respected Kagawa Shihan world chief instuctor of JKS, alongside Dermot O’Keeffe Sensei Head of JKS Ireland and Paul Giannandrea Sensei Head of JKS Scotland ,a very tough grading panel — making this accomplishment even more special and well deserved.

Everyone at JKS Tallaght Karate Club is incredibly proud of you all. Oss! 👊
