Irish Global Health Network A diverse network of global health advocates, professionals and organisations, working together to promote global health issues. Join us today!

The Irish Global Health Network is an independent network of people from many backgrounds who are concerned with issues that impact on the health and development of populations at a global level, but with a particular commitment to populations in low income countries. Established in 2004, the IGHN now has a membership of over 1800 (and growing). It continues to welcome individuals interested in and committed to promoting global health related education, research and advocacy. The Network brings together a large number of like-minded people, coming from different organisational backgrounds and committed and working together for global health. The Network not only provides the opportunity for those in Ireland to link and develop opportunities with each other, but also provides the opportunity for international linkages. As a member-based Network, it seeks to be inclusive and respond to the needs of its members by providing opportunities for learning and action in the areas of global health research, education and related policy and advocacy. 📣 Women’s voices must be heard.

IGHN joined the campaign in calling for greater awareness and transparency around breast density, with Labour Party leader Ivana Bacik among those standing in support of the cause.

Dense breast tissue can make breast cancer harder to detect on a mammogram. Women deserve to be informed about their breast density so they can make informed decisions about their health.

As the issue is brought to the attention of Ministers of State at Leinster House, we stand alongside those advocating for women’s voices to be heard.

This important talk was shared by Chiara Pittalis, Research Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Institute of Global Surgery, whose work focuses on strengthening healthcare delivery in low-resource settings. Since 2019, Chiara has led the Akazi Project in Malawi, improving access to timely diagnosis and treatment for women with breast cancer through partnerships with local clinicians, health authorities, and communities.

Through her work, Chiara reminds us that identifying service gaps, training frontline health workers, and supporting better care are essential steps toward a future where every woman has a chance to survive breast cancer, no matter where she lives.
