Commercial, corporate and branding portraits are not just about photographing a person.

They are about understanding the company, the brand, the message and the feeling behind it - and then bringing that to life through a portrait.

Whether it is a CEO, a creative, a team member or a model, the image needs to reflect more than a face. It should show confidence, professionalism, personality and the values of the brand they represent.

Strong commercial portraiture helps a business be seen in the right way.

It does not just document a person.
It brings the brand to life.

Good luck to all of the European photographers going for their FEP qualifications this weekend.

A professional qualification from the Federation of European Photographers is a recognised proof of skill, creativity and professional standards. Putting together a panel of work to be judged at that level takes courage and commitment. We’re rooting for every one of you.

Architecture photography is one of the most technically demanding disciplines in the industry.

Light, composition, perspective and timing all have to work together. Unlike other genres, the subject isn’t going anywhere - the pressure is on the photographer to find the shot.

We live surrounded by designed spaces. Sometimes, it takes a great photograph to help us really see them.

Learn to use flash with confidence. 📸

On Sunday 14th June, photographers Mark Duffy and Richard McCarthy are running a full day, hands-on off-camera flash workshop at The Johnstown Estate, Co. Meath.

Whether you’re picking up a flash for the first time or want to finally feel in control of it, this day is built around practical, real-world learning - from flash equipment and modifiers to balancing ambient light and controlling multiple flashes.

Make work that scares you a little.

Stay curious. Try things you aren’t sure will work. Surround yourself with people who challenge how you see and how you shoot.
Invest in your development. Workshops, peer critique, honest conversations with photographers and videographers who are further ahead - these are the things that move your work forward.

Comfort is the enemy of growth. And familiarity - however well it performs - can be a creative trap.

One new conversation. One workshop. One technique you’ve never tried. That’s often all it takes.

What are you working on that excites you right now? Tell us in the comments.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Tadhg Nathan

From photographing his pet cat as a 9-year-old, to a Henri Cartier-Bresson exhibition in New York that reignited everything - Tadhg Nathan’s journey into photography has been anything but straight. 📷

He studied electronic engineering at DCU, built a career in tech management, and it wasn’t until a big life change in 2007 that he finally backed himself. He chose family, went full time with photography, and hit the ground running - mentoring with top UK photographers and graduating top of his class.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Today Tadhg specialises in hospitality photography - hotels, restaurants, bars, food, leisure and spas - but his philosophy runs deeper than any brief. He shoots for atmosphere and feeling first, always asking: “What feeling do we want to create in the viewer?”

With 80% of the shoot done before the camera even comes out of the bag, Tadhg brings structure, intention and genuine human connection to every job. He’s equally at home documenting a five-star hotel experience as he is capturing the quiet, unnoticed moments that most people miss.

Based in Kildare. Shooting nationwide.

If you’re a photographer or videographer and you’re not blogging, you’re leaving potential clients on the table. 📸🎥

Your ideal clients are out there searching for answers right now. How much does a photoshoot cost? What should I wear? How do I find the right photographer for my wedding, my brand, my family? And Google is sending them to the websites that answer those questions best.

A blog does more than fill your website with content. It works for you around the clock, attracting the right clients, building trust before anyone has ever been in touch, and telling Google that your website is a valuable resource worth ranking.

The photographers and videographers who show up consistently in search results aren’t necessarily the most talented. They’re the ones who made it easy for the right people to find them.

Is your website working as hard as you are?

Family photographers don’t just take photos. They preserve precious memories.

It may looks effortless from the outside. But behind every great family portrait is a photographer who can read a room, earn the trust of a toddler, find a genuine moment within a posed one, and make an entire family feel comfortable in front of a camera and often all at the same time.

The images a professional family photographer creates don’t just document a moment. They become the way families remember themselves. The way children will one day see who they were. The way something that felt ordinary at the time becomes irreplaceable.

If you’re a family photographer, say hi in the comments below so we can see your amazing work.

Professional recognition doesn’t happen by accident. It’s earned.

IPPVA offers a structured pathway of qualifications for photographers - from your first step into professional accreditation right through to the highest level of recognition in the European photography industry.

Here’s what the pathway looks like:

LIPPVA - Licentiateship
The first level of qualification. It demonstrates a good level of skill and competence and establishes you as a qualified professional.

AIPPVA - Associateship
The second level. A high standard of technical ability, a strong photographic style, and a cohesive body of work - 20 images submitted as mounted prints.

FIPPVA - Fellowship
The highest level of IPPVA qualification. Reserved for those who demonstrate an exceptionally high standard of technical expertise, individuality, and creative flair.

EP - European Photographer
Available after Licentiateship. An entry level European qualification recognising professional competence through the Federation of European Photographers.

QEP - Qualified European Photographer
Available after Associateship. A recognised pan-European qualification demonstrating a distinctive style and flair at the highest level.

MQEP - Master Qualified European Photographer
The pinnacle. Currently held by just six IPPVA members in Ireland.

Each qualification comes with mentoring support, private judging, and confidential results, so wherever you are in the process, you’re not doing it alone.
