As part of the ‘What is life’ lecture series, Trinity's Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the Austrian Embassy recently hosted acclaimed theoretical physicist Professor Christof Gattringer, President of the Austrian Science Fund FWF Fund (FWF).

A leading figure in lattice quantum field theory, Prof. Gattringer offered a fresh perspective on quantum field theory (QFT). In his talk he introduced a new formulation that overcomes long-standing computational barriers and opens the door to advances in understanding quantum matter under extreme conditions.

The Austrian Embassy and Trinity College Dublin hope to host the next lecture in this series in 2026. This lecture series is part of Trinity's ongoing commitment to bringing global scientific leaders to campus and showcasing transformative research shaping the future of Physics and Mathematics.
