*OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM [AYRFIELD COMMUNITY CLUB]*
We want to address recent comments online.
There was absolutely no discrimination involved in this decision to cancel a boxing event which was booked!
The facts are:
Tickets were being sold at €45 a head, with people coming from many different areas for multiple fights in one venue with large media coverage. We were not provided with security for the event, nor were we provided with insurance.
We could never hold 400 people plus a boxing ring in our hall. We have only held one other fight night, and for that we were provided with insurance from both boxing clubs involved.
For any boxing event to go ahead here, the booking club must provide their own boxing insurance as our own insurance does not cover combat sports events. This is about safety and liability — if anything were to go wrong, we would be responsible.
Regarding the €350 paid — you were told it is here for you to collect. We cannot drop money to your door. Like anyone who books and cancels or goes ahead with a party, you need to come and collect it with you docket .
To call us scumbags is very hurtful. We are 4 girls behind a bar just doing our jobs and being slated all over social media. We have held many charity nights for Michael's House, St. Francis Hospice and many others and have never charged for those.
We have no issue with anyone. The only issue was that our insurance does not cover us to hold this type of event without the correct boxing insurance being provided.
Thank you to everyone who knows us and supports us.
