A throwback to this super piece kindly produced by Dean Watt of The Predator Podcast. This production single handedly destroyed the propaganda being peddled by the anti pike angling lobbyists. At the time national newspaper’s and RTE were duped into running with some of this propaganda because of a well known RTE reporters connections to a town on the West of Corrib, a decision they regretted and which no doubt contributed to the extensive corporate governance reviews and scandals that followed for the supposedly “independent news outlets”. This production exposed the absolute lack of professionalism and gutter level reporting and journalism of the outlets that ran with some of the stories. It also showed the lengths the anti pike lobby would stoop to in order to mislead the public and how they gave scant regard to the negative impact on local businesses in their communities that relied on all forms of angling tourism. It it is alleged that one or two regional news outlets still operate that way using the same small pool of washed up contributors. Their day is coming too.

Culling (Slaughter) of Pike by Inland Fisheries Ireland Continues in 2026

Some weeks ago Inland Fisheries Ireland under the sanction of Minister Timmy Dooley began their annual culling campaign on over one third of the available pike angling water in Ireland. This is what it looks like. What are you going to do to stop it and protect your future Pike angling?

Statement from IPS chairman to TAFI on the dreadful fish kill on the Blackwater.

"AreTAFI FINALLY waking up to the real threats to our waterways? Decades of expending all their energies and political clout on blaming pike for all the ills in our rivers and loughs finally coming home to roost. Encouraging IFI to expend precious limited financial and man power resources on "pike management " rather than on environmental protection. And alienating the entire government department by their rabid demands of kill, kill, kill. You're a holy disgrace, the anglers of Ireland deserve better representation. The river Blackwater has been destroyed, and every water in the country teeters on the brink. Shame on you all."

As the volume of peer reviewed scientific evidence grows, will the pike guides in Ireland and pike competition organisers take action? They supposedly have pike welfare at the forefront, or so they say💶💶💶

A timely reminder to wear your life jacket, and stay safe. A huge thank you to all our rescue services, and particularly volunteer groups like this.

Three fishermen had to be winched to safety by the Coast Guard helicopter on Sunday, after their fishing boat sank in Blessington Lakes.
