Is there a more ubiquitous litter item than plastic bottles?

According to Re-turn, Ireland's recycling rate for plastic bottles (alongside aluminium and steel cans) has jumped from 49% to 91% since the introduction of the Deposit Re-turn scheme.

So why are we still finding so many of them?

For the next commonly found item in our series we are spotlighting Wet Wipes! 🧐

Did you know that Wet Wipes are one of the , and even the ones labeled as "flushable" should never be flushed! 🚽

These plastic based wipes take up to 100 years to break down, while biodegradable wipes can still take over 6 months to break down! When flushed, wet wipes can clog our sewers, pollute our seas, and harm marine life. 🐟

Always and remember: only the 3 P’s (p*e, poo, and paper) should go down the loo! Everything else belongs in the bin. 🗑️

Check out these legends down in Wexford! 💯

Back in late April, Ballygarrett National School for their . Every class rolled up their sleeves and took charge of a different area. The junior classes spruced up the school grounds, local church and cemetery grounds. Senior classes tidied up the GAA grounds and 5th and 6th classes teamed up with Ballygarrett Tidy Towns to clean Cahore's north and south beaches. 🚮

Recent windy weather had washed ashore a massive variety of debris, including old clothing, plastic bottles, fishing equipment, wood and pallets. Senior students did an incredible job clearing it all away! It was an incredibly enjoyable week filled with teamwork, fresh air and community spirit. A massive thank you to everyone who pitched in to keep our local environment pristine. 👏

What 3 words would you use to describe your local environment? The places we value are usually the places that motivate us to protect our planet.

isn't about changing the world in one day. It's about recognising that the environment belongs to all of us, each and every day. 🌍🌱

Happy to all who celebrate! 🚲

Today, we're thinking about our environment from the perspective of a cyclist.

Cyclists notice litter differently. They travel more slowly than motorists, spend more time in direct contact with their surroundings and often see litter, illegal dumping and fly-tipping that we may miss in our cars.
