🚮 Join the clean-up by registering at www.nationalspringclean.org The campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for the environment, by conducting clean-ups in their own local areas. The National Spring Clean (NSC) takes place annually throughout the ‘Spring’ month of April, with the aim of raising awareness of the problem of litter nationally as we enter the summer months. National Spring Clean has been operated by An Taisce since 1999 in partnership with the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government and Local Authorities and is sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland, the Wrigley Company Ltd. The size and scale of National Spring Clean has grown steadily and significantly over the years.

Climate action can feel enormous, but community action gives us somewhere practical to begin. 💚

It's ! 💚

A local clean-up protects the places we share and helps reveal the types of litter commonly found in an area. The next step is prevention. Where can we avoid disposable items? Could something be repaired, reused, shared or donated? Is there a recurring litter problem that needs a long term local solution? Let's think about that.

Small actions matter most when they lead to lasting habits and collective change. We can work together to achieve that. 🤝🌱

Keeping Bray Beautiful! 💚

Out and about on the riverwalk, twelve volunteers from Bray Tidy Towns were busy watering, splitting plants and prepping the raised beds for planting. 🌱

Meanwhile, eleven volunteers, including some Gaisce students, picked up heaps of litter around the Killarney Road. 🙌

🐾 Yesterday was , a day to celebrate the creatures with whom we share our planet. 🪹 Today, on , let's think about the places they call home.

Our homes provide us with shelter, safety and somewhere to belong. Once we step outside our front door, we enter habitats shared by countless other living beings. A roadside verge may provide food for pollinators. A hedgerow can shelter birds and small creatures. Rivers, parks, woodlands and coastlines are all homes too.

When litter is dropped, it does more than make a place look unappealing. It can pollute these habitats, entangle wildlife and be mistaken for food. 🚯

Our home may end at the front door, but someone else’s habitat begins there. Let’s treat it with the same care we give our own. 🩷

♻️ Did you know that October is National Reuse Month in Ireland? The campaign encourages us to keep our belongings in use for as long as possible through reuse, borrowing and repair. What will you reuse this month?

Preventing food waste begins with buying, preparing and serving only what we need. However, there is another side to the issue: food that is discarded outdoors becomes litter.

Fruit peels, bread and other scraps may be biodegradable, but they do not disappear immediately. Leaving food behind can attract animals, interfere with their natural feeding habits and encourage them towards roads or busy public spaces. Food litter is also frequently accompanied by wrappers, containers and cutlery that can remain in the environment for far longer.

💚 So, here's what to do:

🍎 Prevent avoidable food waste
🌱 Compost suitable scraps where possible
🟤 Use your food-waste bin
🏠 Take everything home when visiting outdoor spaces

Wind and rain can carry litter through drains and waterways, ultimately ending up in our rivers, causing further damage to all marine environments. 🌊

Stop litter at its source - bin it or take it home. 🚯
