A wonderful thank you from Team Hope 🎁

We were over the moon to have Theresa Wood, Christmas Shoebox Appeal Manager, Team Hope, visit some of our projects this week! She very kindly offered to drop in to thank volunteers who are crafting items for shoeboxes, and tell us about the programme and stories of the children receiving the gift boxes.

Theresa gave a really moving and impactful presentation to our Knitting the Community Together volunteers, followed by a huge thank you to them all. She then very kindly popped down to the volunteers at our shoebox collage workshop to do it all over again!

We are so grateful to Theresa for this kind gesture, and it really was appreciated. We are really enjoying spending time with the volunteers, who have been so creative in their making of "WOW" items to go into the shoeboxes.

Check out some of the dolls that have been made, and the wonderfully decorated shoeboxes that will be donated soon. Thank you to all volunteers who are making items in-person and at home as part of our creative projects!

Have clothes that need a little love? 🧵♻️

Join us at Stitch • Repair • Rewear on Saturday 17th October, 11am–3pm at Vision Ireland, 91 George's Street, Dún Laoghaire!

Bring along your garments and our volunteer sewing team will do their best to repair them for free while promoting sustainable fashion, reducing waste, and extending the life of clothing. Volunteers will also carry out simple repairs on items for onward sale in the Vision Ireland store!

Thinking about a Halloween costume? Come along for some upcycling inspiration too!

Good energy, great community! 🏡💚

DLR Community Volunteers were proud to support DLR County Council's Energy Upgrades at Home and in the Community event in County Hall at the weekend.

This event brought together more than 200 residents and community groups, with experts sharing information and practical advice on improving energy efficiency, accessing grants and financial support and making homes and community buildings more comfortable.

The volunteers were there with commitment, enthusiasm and a strong spirit of community, helping attendees with directions and information and gathering their feedback! Their support helps make events like this welcoming, accessible and meaningful for everyone. By giving their time, helping others and encouraging community participation, volunteers play an important role in connecting residents with valuable information, services and opportunities.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, they are amazing! Thank you also to DLR County Council for the opportunity to support this excellent initiative.

Do you know a volunteer who deserves recognition? ✨

Nominations are now open for the Volunteer Ireland Awards. These awards are the major annual initiative to celebrate volunteers in Ireland, shining a light on the remarkable achievements of volunteers around the country by honouring them at a national level.

It only takes a few minutes to nominate someone whose kindness and commitment have made a difference. For the people you know that go above and beyond for their community, put their name forward so they can get the recognition they deserve.

Every volunteer that is nominated will receive a thank you card from Volunteer Ireland. Awardees’ volunteer stories will be shared across social media channels and with local and national press.

The deadline for nominations has been extended, and you can nominate a volunteer before 5pm on 9th October at https://www.volunteer.ie/nominate-a-volunteer/

Another lovely card making session! 💜

Yesterday, a wonderful group of volunteers came together for another creative card-making session, facilitated by the artist Misha Abbas.

These beautiful handmade cards will be added to the Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal, bringing kindness, love and encouragement to children who will receive the shoeboxes.

Volunteers have been busy in the past few months making lots of lovely handmade gifts, including peg dolls and friendship bracelets that will be added to the shoe boxes.

And we’re not finished yet! Our project continues with a Shoe Box Collage Workshop coming soon, where we’ll bring everything together and decorate the shoeboxes into colourful, joyful gift boxes.

If you missed our previous workshops, stay tuned for the upcoming sessions and come along. Everyone is welcome.

Friendship bracelets, great company, and lots of community spirit! ✨

A huge thank you to Bear Market Coffee for hosting our latest Creative Connections session with volunteers, and helping us create such a warm and welcoming space.

We loved chatting with curious members of the local community, welcoming two new volunteers who joined in on the day, and spending the morning making friendship bracelets for the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal.💛

Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers for bringing the creativity, conversations, and positive energy. We can't wait for the next one!

Creative Connections 💙

At our recent Creative Connections session, volunteers gathered to make friendship bracelets that will be donated to Team Hope for their annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Together, we learned a new skill and laughed along the way, while supporting a good cause at the same time!

Creative Connections is a project of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Volunteer Centre that creates space for connection, for people to meet, share experiences, learn from each other and contribute to their community.

This session took place at the UCD Greenacres Sustainability Hub, a beautiful space surrounded by nature. It gave us the opportunity to disconnect from everything else for a while and focus on the activity together. We are so grateful to the team at UCD in the Community for providing this space to the volunteers.

Our hearts are well and truly warmed after yesterday's Faces to Names speed networking event for local organisations, held in the DLR LexIcon Library. Thank you so much to everyone who attended!

We were delighted to hear more about the variety of supports available in our local community and enjoyed find out about some upcoming events, projects and pieces of work. Lovely to have a chance to be in the room together, rather than trying to chat over emails.

We feel very lucky to be part of the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown area and share a space with so many passionate people and incredible organisations.

Volunteers from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown provided excellent support at the Women's Mini Marathon this month.

This group of amazing volunteers powered through the fast-paced action at the water stations — filling tens of thousands of cups and keeping runners going strong. Their energy and dedication truly shone, with runners stopping to say "thank you" and even shouting "we love you!"

Cheers echoed both ways, as volunteers encouraged runners and runners cheered back; there were some beautiful moments of connection and community.

We were delighted to partner with Cuala GAA for this event, and we thank Damien and his team for the ongoing support and encouragement to facilitate this involvement.

A big thank you to Sefiu Adewale Esan, our volunteer photographer on the day.

This was a great experience for the volunteers, and we thank them hugely for giving their time and energy on the day. It's an iconic event in the calendar, so we were delighted to be there!
