LASC is re-starting the Latin American development issues course!

The Latin American Development Issues (LADI) course comes back in January 2025 with reduced fees, subsidized by LASC. The courses will be taught at the Ballsbridge College, D04 R201.

LASC congratulates with Día de la Canción Criolla and Día de los Mu***os!

When most people in Ireland celebrate Samhain/Halloween on the 31st of October, Peru also celebrates its Creole culture through music, dances, festive food, and artistic performances.

Día de los Mu***os, more known here in Ireland as the Day of the Dead, is celebrated today, November 2nd, in Mexico. On this day, it is common to pay respects to the deceased members of the family with altars, food, marigold flowers, and prayers, as well as to share festive food with family and friends.

As a part of International Week of Action (23.09.2024-07.10.2024) LASC supports the movement and calls for the freedom of the Santa Marta five water defenders.

The five activists, the front-men of the anti-mining campaign are accused of killing a woman in the El Salvadorian Civil War in the 1980s. Despite not being reported by the UN Truth Commission brought up by the current El Salvadorian government in 2023 as a part of the anti-gang crackdown policy which includes ‘states of exception’ – the suppression of constitutional rights.
The trial of Water Defenders in El Salvador Begins on the 8th of October, so LASC has prepared a short article to inform you about the situation beforehand.

We are excited to inform you about Latin American Development Issues course starting this September.

This is a lively and participative course open to people with any kind of interest in Latin America. Participants will become familiar with the issues, how people in Latin America have responded to them, how these problems are related to Ireland and the rest of the world and how people here can take action on these matters.

Students may submit assessment work during the course in order to achieve the QQI Level 5 Minor Award “Global Development Issues.” 5N4127

Course is delivered in English on Tuesdays 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
€150 for 10 sessions
Proposed starting date is the 17th of September

Latina Women Against Violence (LWAV) along with LASC present “Latin Voices Against Domestic Violence”, a panel where we will discuss
the profound impact of domestic violence (DV) on the Latin American community, the barriers to accessing support services, the legal and political frameworks of DV in Ireland, and what we can do to support survivors.

This is an in-person event featuring a live broadcast documentary, a panel discussion, and a brochure launch to support women from the Latin community in Ireland.
