RTE and Media Censorship of Press Conference:
Please share as widely as you can to counteract the censorship by RTE and the media who filmed us but deemed our press conference too "controversial" and "impartial to run.
"My name is Dr Margaret Kennedy. On Tuesday, three disabled people and two parents of disabled children met together to talk to the press about the presidential election.
Of course we had views. Disabled people have a voice, and we were helping people to understand our position, and our position in choosing who we might vote for for the election. We stated clearly our views, and we stated clearly who we might vote for.
We left, and we felt we had done a very good representation of the views of very many disabled people and parents to the press about this presidential election.
What you have to take into consideration is that being ill, disabled, sick, in wheelchairs, with pain, going out to Dublin to make a press conference is actually hard work, but we needed our voice to be heard.
Now we have found that we have been blacklisted by the press, for some reason, for stating our views. This is censorship, outright censorship.
Disabled people were not allowed to say how they felt about the Presidential election. Some of it might have been strong, some of it might not have been what many people would like to here, but it was Our Voice, and Our Voice was Censored. No one else’s voice in this Presidential Election campaign has been censored in such a way.
We believe it is because we said things that were Truth to Power. We challenged, we said why we were voting the way we were voting.
We are extraordinarily disappointed by the people of the press. We had made the effort, we had spoken, it was our voice, and it was scuppered.
Very disappointed with the press at this moment in time.
