We have a brilliant update to share from our Cork and Kerry team. Over the last 3 months, service user, Darragh Stack from Co. Kerry has been instrumental in designing a sleep well-being workshop for people affected by brain injury. Sleep management is key in brain injury rehabilitation, as it allows your brain time to recover.

Darragh was inspired by his background in IT and wanting to support other brain injury survivors with practical tools for sleep support. These workshops took place over a 4-week period, with Darragh leading the group, supported by our Senior Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Natasha Fitzgerald-Yau.

The group explored a variety of important topics, such as sleep and brain injury, blue light and screens, and practical sleep technology supports. The group received very positive feedback and Darragh hopes to continue rolling it out to as many other brain injury survivors as possible.

Well done, Darragh, this is a fantastic achievement!

Our Meath Local Service and Case Manager, Ann and Case Manager, Siobhan were delighted to attend a Family Fun Day at the Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim last weekend. Their stall looked fantastic, enhanced by the incredible artwork created by our Meath clubhouse members. Our team had a brilliant time and spoke to many family members. They were also delighted to meet the contestants who attended the day.

We would like to say thank you to the Darmody family, who are hosting a Tractor Run tomorrow (9 August) in aid of our Cloch Cora assisted living home in Waterford. Registration starts at 1pm at Darmody's Bar, Littleton, Waterford and all vehicles are welcome.

In 2021, John Darmody acquired a brain injury and his life was turned upside down.
Supported by our team at Cloch Cora, John has made fantastic progress on his rehabilitation journey. To thank our team for their wonderful support, John and his family have organised this brilliant Tractor run. Anyone who knows John will know that farming is a huge part of who he is so this is the perfect choice of fundraiser.

There will be some light refreshments and a raffle on the day, so there's something for all the family! We are incredibly grateful to John’s family for organising what promises to be a brilliant event.

It's time for some updates from our Clonmel Clubhouse in Tipperary. Our Thursday group just finished 5 weeks of Music Therapy with the wonderful Music Therapist, Joe Roche (Jolly Jingles Music Therapy). All members enjoyed the weekly sessions, playing different instruments, learning about music and discussing emotions and how music makes them feel and of course, having a good laugh during it.

Music is a powerful medium and the drumming sessions were a great outlet. Our Wednesday group are also taking part in music therapy, completing similar tasks, and singing sessions weekly which everyone is enjoying 🪗

It's time for a special shout-out to a very generous person! Marathon runner, Keith McConnon, joined by his family, recently presented ABI Ireland with a fantastic €2,155 raised for our On With Life Programme.

On With Life is a free nationwide service that supports families living with the impact of acquired brain injury. Because when brain injury happens, it doesn't just affect one person, it affects the whole family.

We love sharing updates from our services throughout Ireland and we have a great update to share from our Sligo Transitional Living Unit (TLU). Our Sligo residents have been busy adding lots of colour and life back into the sensory garden at the TLU. The garden group have sowed seeds for herbs, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, rhubarb strawberries, onions and carrots, all of which will be used for organic use in meal preparation for residents.
