Last Saturday Dolores and Susan attended CAYAS 2026 – the Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult cancers & Survivorship conference, at Croke Park Stadium.

There, they shared information about our On With Life programme which provides peer support, education and guidance to parents and carers of young people living with the impacts of an acquired brain injury (ABI), which can be caused by tumours in the brain.

We were delighted to welcome Deputy John McGuinness to Brain Works, our clubhouse in Kilkenny, to discuss ABI Ireland's Pre-Budget Submission 2027, which calls on Government to establish a nationwide specialist case management service for brain injury survivors.

We also highlighted the urgent need for greater investment in local community neuro-rehabilitation services, ensuring that people can access the specialist supports they need, when and where they need them.

Thank you, Deputy McGuinness, for taking the time to meet with us and learn more about the challenges facing brain injury survivors and their families.

The Dáil is back today, and ABI Ireland is renewing its call for a nationwide specialist brain injury case management service.

Around 19,000 people experience a new brain injury each year in Ireland, yet only 400 currently have access to a specialist brain injury case manager.

Case managers help people navigate complex health, social care and community services, improving outcomes and supporting independent living.

Access to vital support should not depend on geography. Our Pre-Budget Submission calls on Government to ensure that everyone who needs specialist case management can access it, wherever they live in Ireland.
