Monto Walking Tour —

Despite the heavy rain, a great group turned up for the Monto Walking Tour, and we carried on through the weather. The feedback from the group was fantastic, with many surprised by the amount of history packed into such a small area of Dublin.

What truly makes the tour unique are the short audio recordings featuring the voices of people who once lived in and around Monto, sharing their personal memories and stories.

Near the end of the tour, one man recalls his father leading a march into Monto during its closure in 1925.

We are the only walking tour where you can hear firsthand accounts from people connected to Monto and its remarkable history.

Monto Walking Tour
Today’s group stepped back in time as we explored what was once Monto, Dublin’s once infamous red light district steeped in layers of Dublin’s social and cultural history.

With the weather on our side, we walked the streets of the north inner city where, not so long ago, a very different world existed. Visitors were struck by how much history is contained within just a few narrow streets—stories of hardship, resilience, and a complex past that shaped the area.

Many were particularly intrigued to discover that the music for Ireland’s national anthem has its origins in Monto, adding yet another layer to its rich historical tapestry.

It was a deeply engaging tour, and the group left with a real sense of connection to a remarkable and often overlooked chapter of Dublin’s past.
