Aidlink Ireland

Aidlink Ireland Aidlink is an Irish NGO working in Kenya, Uganda and Ghana, delivering basic needs programmes – water & sanitation, education, food security and health.

Aidlink exists to improve the lives of those living in poverty in the developing world. Founded in 1982, we are an Irish NGO that has worked in development for 30 years. Central to Aidlink’s practice is the partnership model. Aidlink now works with 6 partner organisations in 3 African countries, Kenya, Uganda and Ghana. Our programmes focus on the basic development needs of communities as identifi

ed by them: water, education, food security and health (including HIV and AIDS). Aidlink also operates a successful development education programme with transition year students in Ireland. The programme promotes a greater understanding of the causes of poverty and inequality in the world.

Today, on International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM), Aidlink stands together with its partners in Kenya working tirelessly to protect women and girls from serious harm. While 15% of women and girls across Kenya have been affected by FGM, in Kajiado, where Aidlink works, rates are estimated at nearly 100%. Aidlink will continue to support community-level behaviour change interventions to keep women and girls safe.

Pausing holiday festivity momentarily, Aidlink is this afternoon in Iveagh House on St. Stephen’s Green to mark the 20th anniversary of the Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence. With Michael Gaffey of Irish Aid, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, Minister Neale Richmond, leaders in international programming to protect women and girls Alice Kachere and Susan Mani, academic Finnoula Ni Aolain and journalist Aine Lawlor, today’s event is a rich dialogue on the status of GBV.
