Literature Ireland is pleased to announce its involvement in the upcoming Marché de la Poésie in Paris. The festival, which will take place from 3 to 7 June at the Place Saint-Sulpice on the Left Bank, is one of France’s most prestigious poetry festivals, and marks the largest annual gathering of poets and poetry publishers in the French literary calendar.

This year, Ireland has been chosen as the festival’s ‘country of honour’ and will be represented at the festival by a selection of prominent Irish poets: Cúán de Búrca, Vona Groarke, Mícheál McCann, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Annemarie Ní Churreáin, Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh, Mary Noonan, Leanne Quinn and Stephen Sexton. The festival will see the launch of three new anthologies of Irish poetry in French, all of which received essential financial support from Literature Ireland: "100 Poèmes" by Seamus Heaney (Éditionsde La Table Ronde), "Collectif - Chants répétés de la mémoire: 11 poètes irlandais", ed. Virginie Trachsler (Le Castor Astral), and "Ma Verte Erin: visages de la poésie irlandaise d'Oscar Wilde à nos jours", ed. Jeanne Marie (Manifeste).

Partners of the 2026 edition of the Marché de la Poésie include the Embassy of Ireland and the Centre Culturel Irlandais, who co-produced the Irish programme with support from Poetry Ireland and Literature Ireland.

A month in books: April 2026 📚

Literature Ireland's Translation Grant programme invites international publishers to apply for a contribution towards the translation of Irish literature from English or Irish into another language. For 30 years now, Literature Ireland's archive has housed copies of these awarded books!

Yesterday evening was the first of hopefully many conversations with writer and translator, Tânia Ganho. Tânia is the current Literature Ireland/University College Cork Translator in Residence, and we were very glad to invite her to Dublin to discuss her writing life, her current project translating Maggie O'Farrell's Land, and the importance and vitality of translation and language diversity. Many thanks to writer Naoise Dolan, who brought the conversation in many different directions and discussed writing and working in a multilingual life with Tânia.

Many thanks to the Embassy of Portugal in Ireland for their hospitality and support for the event. We look forward to welcoming Tânia back to Dublin very soon!

The event was held in the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, where Literature Ireland is a partner.

The board and staff of Literature Ireland are greatly saddened to learn of the death of the poet, writer and translator, Gabriel Rosenstock. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Eithne, his children and all his many friends across the world who mourn him.

Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Aosdàna member and one of the nation’s finest and most prolific poets, Gabriel Rosenstock.

A poet, writer, essayist, translator and true champion of the Irish language, his poetry carried a particularly unique wisdom, wit, and mysticism that bridged cultures and people.

Poetry Ireland / Éigse Éireann were fortunate to have Gabriel contribute in many ways to our organisation, from his time as Chairman some years ago, to his ongoing contributions to Poetry Ireland Review and kind support for fellow poets.

In more recent times we have been particularly thankful to have Gabriel judge the Duais Bashō competition for post-primary students, where his expertise has guided the next generation of Irish language Haikuists.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Gabriel’s wife, Eithne and family; in particular to his son Tristan - our Poetry Ireland board member; his wide circle of friends and colleagues; and all who were touched by his words.

Call for Applications: Irish Writer in Residence in Lavigny, Switzerland

Literature Ireland and the Château de Lavigny seek applications from Irish writers for a residential bursary in Lavigny, Switzerland. This is a unique opportunity for an Irish writer to travel to Switzerland and live with four other writers in the International Writers’ Residence at the picturesque Château de Lavigny.

🗓️ The Irish residency will take place from 2 to 29 June 2026.

What a fantastic week for Literature Ireland on tour in Germany with authors Paul Lynch, Martin Doyle, Christine Dwyer Hickey, Oisín McKenna, Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and Rónán Hession!

From “Writing the World, Writing the Island” at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (in partnership with the Centre for British Studies and the Embassy of Ireland, Germany) to three days at the Leipziger Buchmesse, this has been a remarkable journey.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this reading tour to Germany such a success. We’re especially grateful to Magda Birkmann and translators Hans-Christian Oeser and Andrea O'Brien, who brilliantly moderated our events at Leipziger Buchmessehmesse and .leipzig. A special thank you to our friends Anna-Nina Kroll and Anna Kuntze, two wonderful translators who helped us set up and run the Ireland stand throughout the book fair.

And, last but not least, thank you to our funders Culture Irelandeland for making it all possible.
