Report on National Lifesaving Championships Saturday 1st November 2025
John Charles Centre, Leeds
Twenty four lifesavers, including 7 Masters, represented the All Ireland Team in the Nationals Lifesaving Championships which attracts the best lifesavers from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. The All Ireland team was represented by swimmers from Belfast Olympia, Poseidon and St. John Berchmans Lifesaving Clubs. This was another very successful competition for the Ireland team with some great results.
Junior Girls – Flora Findlay & Aoibhe O’Neill (Belfast) were 3rd in the Line Throw.
Junior Open – Sean Hogan & Adam Devlin (Poseidon) were outstanding winning the Line Throw and 2nd in the Aquatic Initiative. They won the Silver medal overall.
Senior Girls – Anna Jensen & Lucy Jennings (SJB) finished 3rd in the Life Support.
Adult Ladies – Sinéad Ivory & Madison Liddle (Poseidon) were 3rd in the Aquatic Initiative
Adult Open – Darragh & Conor Kavanagh (SJB) won Bronze in the Line Throw.
Ladies Individual - Eva Harrington (St. John Berchmans) finished 3rd in the Line Throw and Swim and Tow. Eva also won the Bronze medal overall.
Open Individual - Cillian Spain (SJB), with a great performance, won silver in the Aquatic Initiative and Line Throw and was 3rd in the Life Support. Cillian was 2nd overall and only one point behind the winner.
Because of the results in the Junior Open, Ladies and Open, there will be 2 places available to the Ireland team in each of these events next year.
Together with other team members, Poppy O’Brien, Trudy Devoy Murphy, Abby Cahill, Bailey Crean, and Mia Molloy the All Ireland Team finished with 41 points and were 2nd overall. Congratulations to all the team.
In the Masters Competition the All Ireland team had 6 St. John Berchmans and 1 Belfast Olympia lifesavers. Ciara Kavanagh and Ruth McDougall (Belfast) won bronze and Eamonn O’Brien won gold in the Line Throw. The team had three overall runners-up places in various age groups – Laura Mulhair, David Browne and Noel Mulhair. The highlight in the Masters Competition was Derek O’Brien winning gold in his event.
The Masters team also finished in second place overall.
In the Club Simulated Emergency Response Competition (SERC), the St. John Berchmans Junior, Senior and Masters teams finished 11th, 7th and 5th. Poseidon LSC finished 8th in the Junior event.
In total the All Ireland team had 7 Podium finishes and won 1 championship together with 5 runners-up places. Full results of the competition can be found on the RLSS website
