RECAP: June Sunday Session – Image Transfer for Needle Felting – with Adrienne Dempsey

On Sunday, the 14th of June, committee member Adrienne Dempsey led a well-attended session in which we learned how to transfer printed images onto our felt.

Adrienne shared how to print the work onto water-soluble stabiliser paper and then transfer it onto our felt. We learned about the various substrates and materials we could use. She also demonstrated how one could needle-felt onto the printed image, or even all around it, to create a landscape.

Adrienne brought all the supplies needed, plus a bevvy of inspiring items.

She also gave the attendees several printed Help Sheets, including a glossary, information on where to find free clip art, two sheets of cute clip art, and information on where to purchase supplies in Ireland and online.

Thank you to Adrienne and her assistants, Sam and Loli, who helped make samples and kits for the Session. Thanks to Loli for some of the photos. Appreciation to all the members who attended in person or via Zoom!

As this is a long blog post with many photos, please visit the website to see the supplier links and all of the images -

Interest: Two Textile Trips with Nadia Rein

Nadia Rein, who is the International Felmakers Association publicity officer, is organising two Textile Trips this year.

First, there is a 'Felt & Culture Retreat in Kyrgyzstan', from the 4th to the 16th of July 2026, which may have a couple of spots available. Feltmakers Ireland guild member Jane Fox wrote about her fantastic experience on this trip in 2024 - https://feltmakersireland.com/2024/08/29/of-interest-guild-members-create-news/

In the fall, there is a second, slightly different trip, 'Felt, Silk, and the Ancient Road with Nadia', which runs from the 19th of September to the 5th of October. With this trip, one travels through three countries, starting in Kazakhstan, travelling through Kyrgyzstan and finishing off in Uzbekistan (after a visit to the Yodgorlik Silk Factory in Margilan). The emphasis will still be on textiles and felt, with fewer workshops than the journey in July.
