🏃‍♀️🏟️ Sports Capital Funding - an opportunity for clubs and schools

The Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) is the Government’s main programme supporting sports clubs and communities to develop and improve sporting facilities and purchase sports equipment.

There is an important opportunity for schools to apply in conjunction with local sports clubs, helping to create shared facilities that can benefit students during the school day and the wider community outside school hours.

📅 Key dates for 2026

🔹 28 September 2026 – Registration opened on the new SPRAOI system
🔹 19 October 2026 – Funding applications open
🔹 26 February 2027 – Applications close

SPRAOI replaces the previous OSCAR system. Organisations already registered on OSCAR have had their registration transferred and should check that their details are correct.

💶 Funding available

The 2026 fund provides increased funding opportunities, including:

🔹 Up to €250,000 for local projects
🔹 Up to €750,000 for larger/multi-sport projects
🔹 Up to €70,000 for equipment-only projects

The detailed terms, eligibility and application requirements will be set out in the 2026 Information Guide.

Funding can support projects such as:

⚽ Sports pitches
🏟️ Dressing rooms and changing facilities
🏀 Sports halls and gyms
💡 Flood lighting
🚧 Fencing
💧 Drainage
🏋️ Sports equipment and other sporting infrastructure

This is a great opportunity for clubs, schools and community organisations to start thinking now about projects that could improve facilities and increase participation.

Where a school and local sports club work together, there is potential to create shared-use facilities that serve both students and the wider community.

⚽🏐🏀🏃‍♀️🏊‍♂️ Better sporting facilities mean more opportunities for participation, healthier communities and better facilities for our young people.

I would encourage clubs, schools and community organisations to register on SPRAOI, check their eligibility and start preparing now ahead of the October application opening.

In line with the extensive work completed on the 5 acres work on the installation of a new entrance started this week.
This involves opening up the corner at the junction of limkiln and Whitehall roads with a landscaped cobbled entry point allowing a more wide view of the park along with a wide visually attractive main entrance.
The upgrade of both sides of the green areas have lead to a large increase of physical activity with many locals using the pathways for walking and social interaction without the need to travel to other locations.
A very important local amenity.
