Their main responsibility is to ensure the smooth running of the society and to ensure that all committee members are fulfilling their responsibilities. The Auditor will be the main spokesperson of the society. At present, the Auditor will also work with the Campaigns Officer to gain official society status. Secretary – The Secretary will take notes of all committee meetings and distribute them to
members of the society. The Secretary will also be responsible for social media and email communications (newsletters, etc.). Treasurer – The Treasurer will be responsible for the society’s spending. The Treasurer will also work alongside the Campaigns Officer on fundraising events. Welfare Officer – The Welfare Officer will be the go-to person for students when facing a crisis pregnancy or when supporting someone going through a crisis pregnancy, as well as people who have had an abortion. The Welfare Officer would also be able to refer students to appropriate services (e.g. IFPA, the Abortion Support Network, etc.). The Welfare Officer would hopefully liaise with the SU Welfare Officer, and would be the person the SU Welfare Officer could refer people to. The Welfare Officer should be a non-judgmental person who cares and is available to talk to students. The Welfare Officer would also be able to give information on parenting (childcare grant, UCD crèche services, etc.). Campaigns Officer – The Campaigns Officer will be responsible for providing information about abortion and how to access abortion services, as well as information on the morning after pill (for this, we would like to liaise with Re(al)-Productive Health). The Campaigns Officer would also be able to advise on the current legislation, and would be key in organising and promoting protests should the need/opportunity arise, and would work with the Abortion Rights Campaign on this. The Campaigns Officer would work with the auditor on getting official society recognition, as well as working with the Treasurer on fundraising. Education Officer – The Education Officer will organise talks and films throughout the year to promote a better understanding of abortion, accessibility and choice, as well as researching information to distribute to students. The Education Officer will have a combination of the Welfare and Campaigns Officers’ responsibilities. The Welfare and Campaigns Officers would be focused on the practical application of the research and theoretical information provided by the Education Officer (e.g. Education Officer would liaise with the Welfare Officer when looking at information we would give to students about their options). General Committee Members – General Committee Members will be people who have an interest in being involved with the running of the society, although they will not have a specific role. They will assist where necessary in the committee, focusing on helping a particular Officer if they so choose. Should the need or opportunity arise where new positions are created, these are likely to be filled by General Committee Members.
