TODAY 🎬 SHORT FILM PROGRAMME: Q&A WITH THE DIRECTORS

We’re thrilled to share that directors and producers from our shorts programme will be joining us in person on July 6th — and the Q&A will be hosted by the wonderful Gemma Creagh from Film Ireland.

- David Collins, producer of Songbird;
- Mishel Mudryk dir. of The Lightkeeper and Conn Mccormack (main lead/actor) in The Lightkeeper;
- Joanna Kelly Production Coordinator for Berdyans’k.

Gemma Creagh is a journalist, Associate Editor of Film Ireland, and a writer for stage and screen. Her work spans theatre, short film, and television — including five episodes of RTÉ’s Storyland. Her debut short as a director won three awards and screened at over 20 festivals internationally. She is also the former Project Manager of Women in Film & Television Ireland.

🎬 SHORTS PROGRAMME — VOICE OF RESISTANCE

A selection of six short films — about war, displacement, memory, and the quiet ways people hold on to who they are.

Rock Paper Scissors, dir.
Based on a true story. Ivan and his father run a makeshift hospital on the front line — until enemy soldiers close in, and Ivan faces an impossible choice.

The Lightkeeper, dir
A fantasy-drama where lighthouses become a metaphor for war. An Irish lighthouse spirit answers a distress call from Mariupol, in a story about solidarity, loss, and friendship between Ireland and Ukraine.

Time Loop, dir. .an
A poetic documentary following a soul caught between past and present — war, migration, and identity told through surreal imagery and dance.

Berdyans’k, dir.
A young refugee in Ireland uses dark-web séance software to contact her sister, who died back home — and finds her stuck in limbo at the beach where they grew up, now under occupation.

Too Late (?), dir.
Voices from different backgrounds reflect on peace, fear, and the possibility of losing your country and identity — and what it feels like to carry a war with you while living far from it.

Songbird, dir.
Yana, a young Ukrainian girl, struggles to fit into her new Irish school — until Chloe helps her find her footing, and a little hope, in this new country.

🎬 Directed by Taras Tomenko, Slovo House. Unfinished Novel had its world premiere at the 37th Warsaw Film Festival in 2021 and won Best Feature Film at the Košice International Film Festival in 2022.

It tells the tragic story of a generation of Ukrainian writers and artists — the so-called Executed Renaissance — gathered under one roof in Kharkiv and destroyed by the Soviet regime. Remembering them is remembering that Ukrainian culture has always had to fight to exist — and still has to continue that fight today.

🎬 FOREVER-FOREVER, dir. Anya Buryachkova

Forever-Forever had its world premiere in the Orizzonti Extra section of the 80th Venice International Film Festival in 2023.

Set in late-1990s Kyiv, it’s a raw coming-of-age portrait of young people growing up amid the wreckage of the Soviet collapse — first love, friendship, and the reckless games of adolescence collide as they try to find their own voice, against all odds.

🎬 YAREMCHUK: THE UNMATCHED WORLD OF BEAUTY, dir. Artem Grygoryan

A biographical documentary about legendary Ukrainian pop-star Nazariy Yaremchuk.

Tracing his rise to fame, his performances for Chornobyl liquidators, and the persecution he endured under the Soviet regime, the film became the highest-grossing documentary in Ukrainian cinema history.
