Maybe you need a cursed pillow in your life this Halloween? All sales from the knitting factory’s online shop support our mission to make space for single moms to make art — and as someone here pointed out, maybe if we can sell enough pillows we can fund all the residencies that way 🤷🏼‍♀️🧙‍♀️✨ (prices include worldwide shipping, and a lot of other things in the shop are on sale right now too!)

Like, who steals a pillow?? One of the fridge magnets was gone too. I really like making the space feel homey and personal, but should I save the things I like for when residents are here instead of booking website people? I really hope someday the knitting factory will get enough residency/retreat bookings, and/or sell enough subscriptions, that that will be all we do. Taking these bookings is the only way I’ve found to stay afloat until we get there, but it’s definitely more stressful turning the space over every day, and while most people who come to stay are lovely you do get the occasional weird bummer thing like this. I don’t know, do I make the curse pillow??

From today’s Old Knitting Factory newsletter: today is the last day to apply for the intensive year-long online course I’m teaching with The Writer's Center , including a full scholarship worth $5,400 for a single parent. The application process is pretty simple, so there’s definitely still time to apply! If this class doesn’t work for you, I hope you’ll consider joining the online writing retreats I run on the first and third Wednesdays of every month: they’re free for our subscribers, pay-what-you-can for single parents, and €25 for everybody else. I had such a lovely time chatting with Kiz | Fine Artist (Dublin) yesterday while they sketched me for ***rportraitproject , a series they’re creating in response to systemic erasure around the world. We talked about moving to Ireland from countries that feel particularly unsafe for q***r and trans people right now, how it has felt integrating into Ireland over the years, q***r life drawing, the endless hamster wheel of arts funding applications, and Sarah Waters novels. I am so excited to see the project exhibited when it’s done, and delighted to be a small part of it!
