Sail Training Ireland for Youth Development

Sail Training Ireland for Youth Development Ireland's Tall Ship Sail Training Charity. Tall Ship Voyages for Irish People. Raising youth-funds for life changing experiences! www.sailtrainingireland.com

Sail Training is most famously carried out on the Tallships. It can in fact be carried out on a range of sea going sailing vessel from yachts to traditional vessels of all shapes and sizes. The main focus is not on the development of sailing skills but to learn to work with a team of peers, in very challenging situations at sea. The results are a new group of lifelong friends, a boosted self confi

dence and lifeskills that you won't learn anywhere else. Trainees regularly describe their experience as life changing and end up returning for many more voyages.

News Just in from our first Galway Voyage of the season.
From oghan and Ellie

We had breakfast and went into the village.
After lunch we went on a tour of the Aran lifeboat. It was pretty cool. It can right itself after capsizing was cool. The pier jumping was good even though the water was cold. We went for a walk to the Black Fort. The walk was good and the cliffs were cool. We explored a tunnel in the fort. Dinner was carbonara and tasted good. We had to move off the pier to anchor as the cargo boat was due in early in the morning.

We are absolutely thrilled and honoured that President Catherine Connolly has very kindly agreed to be Patron of our charity Sail Training Ireland.

A key accolade available to our trainees is that they can pursue their "Gaisce The President's Awards" while taking part in a voyage. Sail Training Ireland is a Gaisce Challenge Partner.

We hope that President Connolly as Patron will be proud of the work Sail Training Ireland does to make this amazing opportunity to young people across Ireland. Thank you

All too often we hear parents or older adults say, “if only, or I wish I could do that”.
As we are a youth charity most of our voyages are restricted to under thirties but this is an opportunity for anybody over 18 to join the tall ship Maybe for a four-day voyage.

There are a few places left so why not treat yourself to a bit of adventure.

Absolutely no experience required as you will learn along the way, under the watchful eye of the professional crew. The voyage will give you the opportunity to experience a taste of life at sea.

Starting and finishing in Dun Laoghaire.
Start Date: Monday 25th of May 2026
Finish Date : Thursday 28th of May 2026
Cost: €700 includes berth, safety equipment, and all meals. (Unfortunately, there is no funding towards this voyage)

🌊 European Youth Week Celebration 2026 – Celebration at Sea! 🚢✨ What a week for our incredible group of twelve young adventurers! They boarded TS Maybe on Monday and set sail for the Isle of Man, dropping anchor in beautiful Port St Mary before cruising into Port Erin for some well earned shore leave.
Now they’re back on the waves, heading for Bangor, Northern Ireland, ready to explore the stunning north coast before returning to Dublin on Friday.
To mark European Youth Week in style, our trainees rolled up their sleeves and created a mouth watering selection of European themed pizzas 🍕🇪🇺 — and they were absolutely delicious.
A huge shout out to the amazing crew of TS Maybe and to Sail Training Ireland Mentor Lynda Fielden for guiding, inspiring, and supporting our young sailors every step of the way. 🌟 Here’s to adventure, teamwork, and unforgettable memories at sea! We are delighted to bring you news of our new partner vessel, the magnificent Class A tall ship Thalassa, a Dutch three masted Barquentine. https://tallshipthalassa.nl/en/

Thalassa will become a key part of Sail Training Ireland’s programme over the next number of years joining our other amazing vessels Maybe and Ilen. We will have two voyages on her in 2027 and five in 2028. She takes thirty-three trainees and three mentors alongside the professional crew.

We look forward to working with all the crew and shore team of Thalassa.

So, plenty of opportunities for more young people to take part and benefit from the unique development experience of a sail training voyage while having an adventure and great fun.

Please keep an eye on our social media as we announce details later this year of the voyages and how you can get involved.

We believe there will be a lot of interest in getting onboard Thalassa so to avoid disappointment please contact us if:
• You have a group that would be interested in booking an entire voyage exclusively for your group to discuss how we can help make that happen.
Or
• You are a business or individual who would like to help us provide this opportunity to more young people who face disadvantage and people with disabilities. You can really make a massive impact on young people across the country who may not usually get an opportunity like this due to their circumstances.

Blog just in for our TY4 voyage crew. After a busy evening of night watches we all chilled and then after bacon and salad sandwiches we had “happy hour” and gave Maybe a good clean. We then emptied out the rib and lowered it into the bay and headed to Holy Isle where “the mountain goats” went up the hill and the “rock lobsters” headed along the shore. Great afternoon and then back for homemade pizzas… delish!
