We attended the fourth annual DCU Centre for Climate and Society conference today on the theme of climate justice across generations. In her keynote address, former President of Ireland and Chair of the Elders, Mary Robinson, spoke of her belief that we are on the cusp of a clean energy, safer, fairer world, but we're not moving fast enough - we need connection, to bring together those working on the issue so that we can achieve our shared aim of moving away from fossil fuels.

In Dublin, we are hugely dependent on gas and oil to heat our buildings. There is another way.

District heating uses an underground network of super-insulated pipes to distribute heat to multiple buildings throughout a district. Rather than each house having their own individual gas or oil boiler, district heating does exactly what it says, it heats districts (that is more than one building at a time).

District heating can use waste heat from places like power plants, data centres and industrial factories to heat homes and businesses through the district heating network.

According to research from Codema, Dublin’s Energy Agency, there are enough waste-heat and renewable opportunities in Dublin to heat the equivalent of 1.6 million homes. This would reduce Dublin’s fossil fuel bill by a staggering €1 billion each year. Learn more ➡ https://zerotogether.ie/get-informed/district-heating
