On 17 June, 80:20 joined The DICE Project’s Céim, Curriculum and Change GCE Conference at Maynooth University.

Tony Daly presented on human rights education in a time of global crisis, while Mairead Redmond joined Claire Glavey for a cross-curricular session on fairness and the environment.

Colm Regan, writer for the Times of Malta, co-editor of the forthcoming 8th edition of 80:20 Development in an Unequal World and former coordinator of 80:20 was also there and shared his knowledge and ideas.

Mairead also shared how DevelopmentEducation.ie can help educators find resources, develop lesson plans and bring global issues into the classroom.

Thank you to the DICE Project for a valuable day of learning and exchange.

What kind of education do we need in a world marked by crisis and inequality?

On 24 June, 80:20’s Education Projects Officer Mairead Redmond attended the Irish Development Education Association - IDEA Annual Conference 2026, Education for Liberation: GCE in an Age of Crisis.

The conference created supportive space for educators, activists and organisations to listen, question and reflect on Global Citizenship Education, solidarity, lived experience, Palestine, resistance, and the role of education in challenging injustice.

In our latest blog, we share a short piece from the conference and what it means for 80:20’s ongoing work in development education.

A huge thank you to Salesforce Ireland for choosing to support 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World through this year’s North BDR Open tennis charity tournament.

Held on 5 June, the event brought together Salesforce teams and supporters for a brilliant day of tennis, good humour, teamwork and fundraising.

Tony Daly joined the tournament with the Irish team, and 80:20 also brought along something special for the day: tennis balls stencilled with each 80:20 equation.

Congratulations to the Swedish team, who won the tournament, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who organised, played, donated and supported the event. 🎾

A big thank you to Benita Kalala, who joined the 80:20 team on work placement from City of Dublin FET College as part of her Digital Business Skills course.

Over the past few weeks, Benita brought curiosity, energy and a real willingness to learn into the team, supporting a range of activities across 80:20’s work.

It has been great working with young people whose skills, values and outlook connect so naturally with 80:20’s vision for a fairer, more just and equal world.

For us, work placements are a way to introduce more people to the ideas, questions and action behind our work, and they also help us grow our impact through fresh perspectives, new skills and shared learning.

Thank you, Benita. It has been lovely having you with us!

80:20 was delighted to take part in the Library Staff 2026 Training Seminar at The Woodford Dolmen Hotel, hosted by Carlow County Council Public Library Service.

Ciara Regan and Mairead Redmond joined library staff for a day of reflection on the role of libraries in local communities, using the 5 Ps of sustainable development — People, Peace, Planet, Prosperity and Partnership — as a framework.

The day highlighted a powerful message: libraries are vital public spaces of dignity, learning, inclusion and community support.

Thank you to everyone involved for such a thoughtful and engaging day. Carlow County Library

🎾 2 days to go!

This Friday, June 5th Salesforce Ireland’s North BDR team will take to the court for the North Tennis Open, raising funds in support of 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World.

We are so grateful to the Salesforce team for choosing to support our work in education, human rights and development, and global justice.

Every point played makes a difference, and every donation helps us continue creating learning spaces, resources and projects that support people to understand the world and act for a fairer one.

We were delighted to attend Africa Day 2026 in Tallaght, hosted by South Dublin County Council.

It was a wonderful celebration of African cultures, music, dance, food, creativity and community, and a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where people can come together, learn from one another and celebrate the richness of our shared world.

At 80:20, we believe that education for a better world begins with connection, curiosity and respect.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing such a vibrant community event to life. SDCC

Great conversations, shared ideas and a lovely lunch!

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Kathryn Moore, Company Secretary and member of the 80:20 Board, to Fumbally Exchange. It was a wonderful opportunity for Kathryn to meet members of the team, hear about our work and exchange ideas about the future of 80:20.

Thank you, Kathryn, for an engaging conversation and for your continued commitment to 80:20's mission of educating and acting for a better world.

These days mark two years since the painting and launch of our mural project with St. Cronan's Bray, a creative collaboration centred on equality, solidarity, diversity and global justice.

The mural became much more than an artwork. It was a learning process, a community effort, and a chance for students to express their vision for a fairer and more connected world.

We were also delighted to see the project featured by RTÉ News2day at the time, helping bring the students’ creativity and message to a wider audience across Ireland 💙

Looking back, this project remains a powerful reminder of how education, art and collective action can come together to spark conversation and inspire change.

A special thank you again to everyone involved in bringing the mural to life 💙

(And yes, we still love watching the time-lapse video!)
