Age & Opportunity is the national organisation working to enhance wellbeing for older people through participation in sport and physical activity, arts and creative engagement, personal development, community collaboration and active citizenship. We are Age & Opportunity, the national organisation that provides a range of opportunities for older people who want to get more involved in arts and cul

ture, sport and physical activity, civic engagement and personal development. Our aim is to inspire people as we age to live a dynamic life in which they can be more active, more visible, more creative, more connected, more confident, more often. One of our key priorities is to truly understand what ageing in Ireland means for people today by increasing the dialogue we have with them - conducting regular research through focus groups and workshops and by generating more opportunities for feedback across all of our programmes. We work with local communities and organisations across the country to run a range of programmes and activities in three key areas:

โ€ข Age & Opportunity Arts provides opportunities for us to engage more in arts and cultural events and initiatives.

โ€ข Age & Opportunity Active is designed to get us more active and participate in recreational sport and physical activity.

โ€ข Age & Opportunity Engage offers a range of workshops and learning initiatives for our own personal development as well as opportunities for us to play an active role in our community.

We are delighted to offer Changing Gears in Kilkenny this July and August 2026.

Changing Gears is an in person course, which supports people in dealing with transitions or significant life-challenges (retirement, bereavement, job-loss, ill health, becoming a carer, relationship breakdown) in mid to later life. Its aim is to help participants to identify what has served them well so far in life, the successes and challenges they have experienced, what supports they have in their lives and what they may need to put in place, and/or discard, for the next stage of life. It takes place over five weeks and is a facilitated group experience that uses a blend of personal reflection, worksheets, and small group sharing, in a safe environment.

๐—›๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ?
Changing Gears runs over 5 weeks with weekly sessions of 2 ยฝ hours. It offers participants time to:
โ€“ Develop skills and techniques build resilience and confidence in managing life-changes or transitions
โ€“ Reframe change as opportunity with positive options and also challenging negative stereotypes about ageing.
