Dublin Toastmasters Pop along and find out what we're about! Meeting every Thursday from September to June in Buswells Hotel, 7:15pm sharp. Walk-in Guest fee : €10.

We meet every second week, so keep an eye on the page for the next date. How does a Toastmasters meeting work? A Toastmasters meeting is split into two halves; a 'Topics Session' and 'Prepared Speeches.'

At our club, the Topics Session is in the first half. The Topics Session gives people a chance to practice thinking on their feet. A topic is pulled out at random from a jar, followed by a members name. The member responds to the topic, for a duration of up to two minutes, and then sits down. Guests are welcome to simply sit and observe, but if they would like to respond, they may raise their hand and speak. Other members may also respond for a period of up to one minute. The whole purpose of this section is to make people feel more comfortable communicating their thoughts on the spot. Generally, people find that while they may have felt nervous and experienced difficulty communicating their ideas the first few weeks, after practice they become much more comfortable and eventually they can enjoy communicating their ideas with ease and with great effect. The second half of our meeting features prepared speeches. Generally speaking we have three speeches a night, most often 5-7 minutes long. Members will have put their names forward a few weeks prior, and will now be delivering a prepared speech. After a member conducts a speech, all members and guests write their opinion on the evaluation slips provided, which will be given to the speaker at the end of the meeting. These evaluation slips are invaluable to the speaker as they tend to be encouraging yet also highlight areas that need improvement. In addition to the individual evaluation slips, the prepared speeches will be evaluated by three pre-selected evaluators who will deliver a 2-3 minute evaluation on each speech. This allows the speakers to receive feedback from an experienced member, and the audience can learn from this too.

Another fantastic evening at Dublin Toastmasters, hosted at Buswells Hotel, filled with insightful speeches, valuable lessons, and lively participation!

🗣️ Patricia officially opened the meeting, followed by our Toastmaster of the Evening, Geraldine, who introduced the agenda and guided us through a wonderful session.

🎤 Prepared Speeches
✨ Eder delivered an entertaining speech inspired by his love for a pop diva, Eder challenged stereotypical thinking and explored the expectations placed on male and female singers.
✨ Mikaela took us on a journey of reflection, reminding us of the importance of taking a step back, reassessing our direction, and having the courage to change course when needed.

💬Table Topics, led by Augustin, explored the theme of love and relationships, sparking thoughtful reflections, personal insights, and spontaneous answers as participants put their impromptu speaking skills to the test.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lisa Cunningham.🕊️

Lisa held an irreplaceable place in the heart of the Dublin Toastmasters Club. ❤️ As the daughter of our club’s founder, her roots ran deep, and she played a significant and lasting role in shaping the community we cherish today.

Anyone who met Lisa knew the incredible energy, warmth, and genuine welcome she extended to every single newcomer walking through our doors. She was a loyal friend, a dedicated mentor, a wonderful teacher, and a passionate animal lover whose kindness touched everyone she met. Her loss is deeply felt not only within our club, but across the wider community.

Our deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace. 🙏

Last Thursday’s session at Dublin Toastmasters was packed with insight, encouragement, and great speeches! 🎤👏

Our President, Patricia, officially opened the meeting, setting the tone for an engaging evening.

🎙️ Toastmaster of the Evening – Mary�guided us through the agenda and kept the evening running smoothly from start to finish.

🎤 Prepared Speeches
We enjoyed three thought-provoking speeches:

2. Augustin – Everyday Negotiation
3. Abdul – What Happened to Friendships?

💬 Table Topics session, led by Shane, was lively and engaging, giving members and guests the opportunity to think on their feet and put their speaking skills into practice.

🎤 Meeting Highlights – 10/09/2026

What a wonderful way to return after the summer break! 🎉 We were delighted to welcome a fantastic mix of members and guests, with many familiar faces reconnecting and catching up, while new guests joined us for their first taste of Dublin Toastmasters. There was a real sense of excitement, warmth and community in the room! 🤝✨

👋 A New Chapter
Patricia welcomed everyone in her new role as Club President, taking over from our Past President, Bhupen. We would like to thank Bhupen for his leadership and wish Patricia every success as she begins her new role! 🌟

🏆 Celebrating Achievements
We also took a moment to recognise members who reached new milestones in their Toastmasters journey and completed following pathways:

👏 Ihab – Level 1 of “Innovative Planning”
👏 Abdul – Level 2 of “Presentation Mastery”
👏 Daniel – Level 2 of “Engaging Humour”

🎤 Prepared Speech
Mary entertained us with her wonderfully relatable speech, “Why Finding the Perfect Pair of Jeans Is Elusive.”👖
She highlighted that “there’s denim to fit everybody” - although, for her, finding the perfect pair of jeans can feel a little like “finding a unicorn on a bicycle”!🦄🚲

George also gave a helpful presentation on how to navigate the Toastmasters pathways and use Easy-Speak, for a better understanding of the tools available to plan progress, manage speeches and make the most of their Toastmasters journey. 📚🎯

💬 Table Topics
Augustin launched the first Table Topics session of the term, challenging members and engaging our guests with spontaneous topics. There was plenty of creativity, quick thinking and lots of lively participation! ✨

On 5th June, we came together for our summer dinner - a wonderful evening to celebrate the friendships, achievements, learning and laughter that have made this Toastmasters year so memorable.

A big thank you to Lisa Cunningham for her inspiring Summer Party speech! She honoured our outgoing committee, welcomed the new one, and highlighted Larry’s invaluable contribution to keeping our club running smoothly.

What a year it’s been - new members, great energy, and some unforgettable speeches from our talented club members. It’s been fantastic to see everyone grow in confidence, develop their communication and leadership skills, and support one another along the way.

As we are enjoying a well-earned summer break, we can look back with real pride at everything we’ve achieved together. 🥳

🎉 End of Term – Dublin Toastmasters 🎉

Thursday, 21 May 2026, marked our final meeting of the term at Buswells Hotel.

The first half of the evening featured a number of engaging speeches from our members, showcasing the progress, confidence, and communication skills developed throughout the year. 🎤

The second half was dedicated to our Annual General Meeting, where we reflected on another successful term and elected our new committee for the upcoming year. Congratulations to all those elected, and thank you to everyone who contributed to the club’s success over the past year. 👏

As we take our summer break, we’d like to thank all our members and guests for being part of our Toastmasters community.

☀️ We will return in the first week of September 2026, ready for another exciting season of public speaking, leadership, and personal growth.

Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to seeing you again in September!
