Adult Safeguarding Stakeholder Forum

Minister Kieran O’Donnell and The Department of Health hosted a Stakeholder Forum on 3 June 2026 to support the development and implementation of the National Policy Framework for Adult Safeguarding in the Health and Social Care Sector.
The forum brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including Government, the HSE and community organisations, to discuss how best to protect and support adults who may be at risk of harm. Philip Daly, Chair of our Older peoples Council in Dublin City South East Area was also in attendance.
Discussions focused on key areas such as future legislation, implementation planning and the development of safeguarding supports, including an online system and a national research strategy.
There was also a strong emphasis on empowering people to stay safe, including a session on self-guarding and practical guidance on staying safe online Age Friendly IrelandHSE Ireland

The message is that every older person has a right to live a life free of any form of abuse. If you are an older person, or if you are worried about an older person who may be experiencing abuse,
mistreatment or not being cared for adequately, there is help and support available.

Feedback from one Participant , thanks to all staff incredible 👏👏👏

It is inspirational to witness the group dispense with their zimmer frames, walking sticks etc. to participate enthusiastically in the sessions which are scientifically geared to improve our strength, flexibility, stamina, balance and posture. I can endorse it as a life saver, affording me the opportunity to avail of its wonderful arsenal of tools to help in safeguarding my walking - thus avoiding falls.
