ICON Women's Housing Forum

ICON Women's Housing Forum The Inner City Organisation Network (ICON) would like to introduce a new Community Development Programme (CDP) and our new team members.

30/01/2025

Why join ICON Community Development Programme, (CDP) Volunteers in ICON Projects (VIP).

ICON Women's Housing Forum and ICON Women's Autism Awareness Training Together Group working groups have provided a space to learn from one another, within a safe space to share lived and living experiences. A forum which gives women opportunities to grow and development with the support of our team through to become leaders and activists in our communities. Using our value led mission statement and community development principles and practices to guide them to a process of emprowerment, particpation and collective decision making, phenomenally, phenomenal women.

Here is some feedback from our CDP VIPs...

Our ICON team will be attending a forum on 'Regeneration Communities - Constructing Hope' .
Which is a national conversation on better public housing with people at its heart - a chance to learn from others' experiences & bring your own
This is an essential meeting that looks at human rights and housing.

For the past two years a wide group of Regeneration stakeholders including tenants, community and residential organisations, Dublin City Council senior personnel, elected representatives, Gardai, ETB and HSE personnel and representatives from the Dept. of Environment from Regeneration Boards and Forums in the South Inner-city area of Dublin came together and reflected on their operation and processes.

As a now established Community of Practice we want to broaden the conversation to include others’ experience and hear commentary from research and international experience.

This seminar will comprise of presentations and conversations on:

• the Impact on Lives over Generations - presentation from Irish residents on the impact on lives over generations with a response from Mr. Erik Elmgren, Managing Director, the tenant led Swedish Union of Tenants.

• the Current Situation on Public Housing provision with a response from Leilani Farha, former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing

• the importance of Meaningful Collaboration - presentation from Community Action Network, a social justice NGO, Professor Padraic Kenna, University of Galway & international expert on housing and Dr Mark Jordan , Southampton University on a rights based model of tenant participation in Ireland.

• New Solutions - a response from political/government spokespeople for Housing

This will be a hybrid event and you are welcome to attend in-person or online.

Our staff and volunteers from ICON Women's Housing Forum group will be participating both in person and online and engaging in meaningful discussion providing in put from the lived experiences from Dublin North east inner city.
