Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association

Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association The IMNDA is dedicated to providing care and support to the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Community. PhD.
(228)

The cornerstone of the IMNDA's approach is to put people with MND at the heart of all its focus, to champion their voice and dignity, to provide information resources and support so as to empower them to make informed decisions for themselves as individuals, whilst also providing every possible support to their families and carers. Since its foundation, the Association has developed specialist, in

dividulaised, services that reflect the needs of the Irish MND community. Our ethos is to ensure rapid access to these vital services for all of our clients regardless of their location or means. Provision of the specialist medical equipment and aids to people with MND plays a vital role in improving their quality of life, enabling them to live as active, independent citizens within their community and to remain in their home with their families for as long as possible. We support over a quarter of our members financially with a home help supplement so that they obtain additional hours of home help to that offered by their community, which is vital to their well-being, care and dignity. Our dedicated Nurse works remotely providing expert one on one advice during home visits as well as educating community teams, whilst the Association also funds counselling for those living with the disease. We are holding our Global Day event today 4th June to mark MND/ALS Global Day which takes place on the 21st June, on this day all The International Alliance of ALS / MND Associations come together to shine a light on .

Today at our event, we will be launching our Strategic Plan By Your Side: A New Five-Year Strategy for People Living with MND and their Families. Over the next five years, IMNDA will focus on strengthening person-centred supports, improving care co-ordination, expanding support for families and caregivers, and enhancing support at key stages of the MND journey. A copy of our plan is now available on our website.

Today, we will also recognise all those who have gone above and beyond for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association by presenting them with a small plaque as a token of our appreciation. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank William Fry Law firm for hosting the event on our behalf.

📣📣Voice4MND 2026: Giving Caregivers a Voice

Behind every person living with MND is a caregiver holding everything together.

Our latest IMNDA survey shows:
• 85% report stress impacts their wellbeing
• 59% provide care 24/7
• Many are experiencing burnout
• Nearly 80% lack adequate respite support

This year, we’re shining a light on their experience.

We’re aiming to raise €21,000 by June 21st to support caregivers as part of our Voice4MND campaign and to mark MND Global Awareness Day.
