The HSE tells us they outsource to "Private and voluntary providers" to "Cover the areas the HSE can't reach". THIS IS A SMOKESCREEN. The HSE is choosing to funnel public money from working-class wages to private bank accounts through a middleman.

September 2025: the HSE admits it increased the rates for home support providers to €32.73 per hour. Meanwhile the actual healthcare assistant is lucky to see €14-16 of that. WHERE DOES THE OTHER €18 GO?

The "Providers". These private companies are parasites. Refusing to pass on the 9.25% pay agreement. Pocketing the difference. BUT THE HSE? They sign the cheques. They set the rates. They could employ every homecare worker directly tomorrow. Pay carers €25+. THEY WON'T.

Consider one worker. 35 hours/week. 46 weeks/year.
- At €15/hour (Private Providers): €24,150
- At €25/hour (Direct HSE Employment using part of Middleman Fee): €40,250

THAT'S €16,100 STOLEN PER WORKER. PER YEAR.

Our healthcare assistants are back out on strike for the sixth time to press their demand for pay parity against an employer who refuses to engage and a HSE who turns a blind eye.

Come out and support them outside Leinster house on the 10th June from 10am ❗️

300,000 retail workers in Ireland. Less than 10% are in a union.

Let that sink in.

That means most of you don't have the power to negotiate real improvements with your employer. Instead, you're left hoping they'll just treat you with basic respect. That's a power problem created by social partnership and no strike clauses.

And here's the thing: you don't wish or shout worker power into existence. You organise it. One conversation at a time. Till to till. Break room to break room. Do that enough, and you stop being just a number to your boss. You become something much harder to ignore: a real, organised structure.

So let's fix that 10% problem. Not just by changing laws or holding protests but by changing the real number that counts: how many of us are in.

One shop. One new member at a time. Join the IWU today.

Tesco Boss Gets €12.4 Million - Worker Gets Fired 🛑

Meet Ken Murphy from Cork. He runs Tesco and took €12.4m home last year. Most of that is Tesco workers' labour in his pocket. Now consider St. Finbarr's Tesco shop steward. She talked to workers in other Tescos so Tesco sacked her.

Right now she's waiting on her appeal. Tesco refused her IWU union rep in previous meetings and went ahead without her. This is union-busting. Fire the organiser. Scare the other workers. But why sack her? She wasn't dangerous... but she was dangerous to the bosses. One worker talking across shops creates organisation and workers' power which Tesco fears that more than anything.

Ken Murphy's €12.4m depends on Tesco workers being alone. Better pay and conditions depend on Tesco workers being together. To fight you must unite. Consider joining the IWU today for help organising your Tesco. If every shop is organised, you can win.

Section 39 HCAs are being discriminated against on the basis that their employers tender to the HSE instead of receiving grants.

They do the same work as HCAs in other places including in the HSE but are paid up to 30% less than their HSE counterparts.

The only way forward is for HCAs to stand together and co-ordinate strike days. To come out on strike on the same days and pressure multiple employers across different parts of Dublin together.

They think they can ignore one group, but they can't ignore us all.

We welcome the recent industrial action taken by healthcare assistants in Blanchardstown.

We welcome the successful and in favour ballot in Ballymun for industrial action as well.

It's important that Section 39 Healthcare Assistants that were excluded in the 2025 deal are pay parity with their fellow Section 39 workers.

If we unite our forces into one great picket outside Leinster house then it will be impossible to ignore us all.

There is no excuse by the different employers or the HSE for discriminating against hundreds of healthcare assistants providing essential services.

Victory to the healthcare assistants, together we will triumph!

3 years ago our members were fighting their employer (owner of Homesavers) Naeem Maniar for turning off the air conditioning in the middle of a heatwave. As union members we advised them to not work in unsafe conditions and cease working if necessary as well as balloting them for industrial action.

The AC was turned back on very quickly after the unions intervention!

5 Strikes in 5 Months!

The Northside Healthcare Assistants remain stalwart in their fight for pay parity.

Many challenges have come and gone, and the group has only become stronger over the last few months.

There's only one way forward, and that's to see this fight to the end!

Liam Cunningham gave the Strikers a visit today as well to show his support. Fair play Liam!
