As a mum of 2 young children Vicki knows how much is involved in packing for a few days away and through her work also sees how much more is involved in when you have complex care needs.
Vicki Part 2
How much stuff do you need to pack and organise for a weekend away? It's chaotic isn't it? From nappies, wipes, formula and even sleeping arrangements? Are you going to use a travel cot or bring the next-to-me? And if you're using a travel cot, how is your baby/child going to sleep on one of those mattresses 🤯
But, what about the families who want a weekend away but instead of their pram they need access for their childs electric wheelchair, instead of travel cots they need a hospital bed with a specialised mattress to avoid pressure sores for their child. They will also need a hoist to move their child from the wheelchair to their bed or to the bath.
Circumstances may be different, but the principle is still the same. They want a weekend away as a family to make memories, because their loved one is unfortunately deteriorating by the years instead of reaching mile stones.
I really hope to raise awareness for our community, no one knows what the future holds. A lot of you may never have come across anything like this, whereas I have been fortunate enough to care for people in these circumstances. I also know some amazingly strong people who have lost their children due to illnesses. 💔
Richard was 3 years old when he was diagnosed with duchenne muscular dystrophy. Richard and his family have a community of familys they want to build the holiday home for. The holiday home will be in Ballycastle, kitted out with hoists, a hospital bed, ventilators etc. So all the familys will need to enjoy their weekend away, is time. ♥
Can you support Hoist Assisted Holidays and help the most isolated in our community. Donations can be made via the link.
