Bank Holiday Weekend Water Safety Appeal 🌊

So far, 11 people, including children, have tragically lost their lives in water related incidents since this recent heatwave began. Our heartfelt and sincere condolences go out to all of the families and friends affected by these devastating losses.

As we head into the Bank Holiday weekend, the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service is asking everyone to stay safe and be aware of the dangers around water.

Whether you are visiting the beach, fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking, or walking along rivers and coastal areas, please take extra care and never underestimate the water.

🚨 Safety Tips:
✅ Always supervise children near water
✅ Wear a lifejacket when boating or fishing
✅ Avoid swimming alone
✅ Stay away from fast-flowing rivers and unsafe areas
✅ Check weather and tide conditions before heading out
✅ Never mix alcohol with water activities
✅ Carry a charged mobile phone in case of emergency

The water may look calm, but conditions can change quickly.

Our volunteers will be on call throughout the weekend. Please help us by making water safety your priority.

🆘 FLOAT TO SURVIVE
If you fall into water unexpectedly, your body may react with shock. Or you get into difficulty in the water, Don’t panic. Instead:

* Tilt your head back, Ears submerged and try to stay calm
* Extend your arms and legs out like a star
* Focus on steady breathing
* Let your body float on the surface while you regain control

Don’t fight the water , float and breathe.

Have a safe and enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend from all at the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service.

Saturday Evening, with the use of our classroom facilities, a Bullying and Online Bullying Awareness Workshop with An Garda Síochána was held for the children of Newtown View.

A huge thank you to Garda Eric Scurry for delivering such an important and worthwhile talk. The workshop covered the different types of bullying, what young people should do if they are being bullied, and the importance of online safety awareness.

Garda Scurry also spoke about the dangers that can exist online through games and apps such as Roblox and other social platforms, helping children better understand how to stay safe while using the internet.

These conversations are so important for young people today, and we are delighted to have been able to support such a valuable community event.

Thank you again Garda Eric Scurry for taking the time to speak with the children and share such important advice and guidance. 👏

We still have 1 container left to go out, and it would be ideal for a business, club, school, community group or workplace looking to help collect return bottles and cans to support the BFRRS , while still supporting recycling. 🌍

If you’d like to take the last container or want more information, send us a message.

♻️ Recycle for Rescue ♻️

We are delighted to announce that we have recently been donated another container to use as a large drop bin for our return scheme.

As it needs a new home, if any businesses, events, clubs, schools, or local organisations would like to take this large bin and support Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue, please get in touch and we can arrange drop off. Once the bin is full, our volunteers will come and empty it.

As a voluntary organisation, this scheme is really starting to make a huge difference, and we cannot thank all the local businesses, private households, and supporters enough for taking on a bin and supporting us.

Your support goes a long way and helps us continue to provide and maintain our rescue service to the highest standard possible.

Thank you all for your continued support.

🚨’’Stories of the Boyne’’ 🚨

The River Boyne has been at the heart of Drogheda for generations.

We’re creating a special “Stories of the Boyne” community wall for our boathouse, made up of photos, memories and stories shared by the people of Drogheda and the surrounding areas.

Fishing trips, summer swims, rowing, floods, family walks, dock work, rescues, sunsets, old photographs and memories passed down through families.

Before these memories disappear, let’s save them.

If you have:
📸 Old or new photos of the Boyne
📖 Stories or memories connected to the river
⚓ Fishing, rowing or boating photos
🌊 Flood memories or historic moments
👨‍👩‍👧 Family photos by the river

we’d love to include them.

You can send photos by Messenger or pop them below, along with a few words about the memory if you’d like. Or just a few words of a memory without a photo. It’s all about the memories,

Let’s preserve the story of our river together.

Members of Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue stand in full solidarity with the dedicated paramedics of the National Ambulance Service in their fight for pay parity and professional recognition.

Every day, these highly trained emergency medical professionals make life saving decisions under immense pressure, providing critical care to people on some of the worst days of their lives. Their skill, education, and commitment deserve to be recognised and fairly rewarded.

We will always stand in full support of all state agencies and frontline emergency services when it comes to receiving the recognition and fair reward they deserve. We understand the dedication, commitment, and sacrifice that their roles demand every single day while serving and protecting our communities.
