17th Dalkey Scouts

As it came to the end of the scouting year for our beavers and cubs, the beavers had fun with a slip n’ slide outside the den and cubs took on a beach clean on a busy Monday evening last week at Sandycove. Camping and Hillwalking Badges were then awarded to those who obtained them and our cubs scouts moving up to scouts were honoured. The scouts are away in the Netherlands staying at a scouting campsite Het Naaldenveld having a wonderful time - more photos to follow!

Congratulations to our Scouts on completing the Chief Scout’s EPIC challenge! With this year long challenge, the Scouts were required to complete 5 nights camping, 3 long hikes, carry out an environmental project (tree planting in Lough Dan), plan an investiture and submit a log book. Representing Dalkey at the award ceremony were scouts Brendan and Conor and their scouter, Andy who received their award from the Chief Scout. Well done to all involved!

The cubs tested their orienteering skills at Carrickgollogan, recording the code from each marker on their maps, in the fabulous sunshine on Monday evening.

Thanks so much to Dalkey Community First Responders for spending time with our cubs at Monday’s meeting teaching them CPR, how to use a defibrillator and do the Heimlich manoeuvre. Thanks also for patiently answering all the questions from these curious cubs! We are lucky to have such dedicated volunteers in the area.

It’s National Volunteering Week so here’s a shout out to all our adult volunteers, known as scouters, who made our group spy camp for the beavers, cubs and scouts so much fun this past weekend at Larch Hill Scout Centre.
