Prospect (Modern English name meaning ‘An extensive view of landscape’) because of the fine view it gives over Brackley Lake.

However, the townland was not always known as Prospect.

Earlier maps depicts the townland as being named Gortatawill; later maps depict it as Renmore.

It is now commonly known as Prospect.

Prospect is also home to the island on Brackley in the centre of the lake. The island is believed to be artificial and is classified as a Crannog.

Corlough has 5 townlands beginning with ‘Alt’. Meaning ‘height or cliff’

Altnadarragh, Altachullion, Altateskin, Altinure, Altcrock

Whilst Altinure and Altachullion also border Altbrean in Swanlinbar parish.

It is no surprise that all of these townlands can be found in the upper Corlough.
