Cork City Council would like to advise the public of the following impacts on local authority sites and services during the planned national strike action on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

• City Hall complex, including the housing and planning counters, will be closed
• All branches of Cork City Libraries (including My Open Library services), and Cork City and County Archives will be closed
• All gated public parks, including Fitzgerald’s Park, will be closed
• Cork Public Museum will be closed
• Tramore Valley Park Civic Amenity Site will be closed
• Paul Street Car Park will be closed

The weekly rent account update for Cork City Council tenants, normally processed on Wednesdays, will be completed on Thursday, October 15. As a result, account balances will not be updated until Friday, October 16, and may not reflect the most recent payments or transactions until that time.

The following will operate as normal:
•Black Ash Park & Ride
•North Main Street Car Park

We have contingency arrangements in place to support the continued delivery of essential services, including:
•Cork City Fire Brigade emergency response service
•Critical housing services, including homeless services, emergency repairs and other urgent interventions
•Safety-critical roads functions
•Burial and cemetery services

The peregrines of St. Colman’s Cathedral

On Thursday next, 15th Oct. 2026, Allan Farrell of BWI Cork Branch will present a talk and slide show detailing the trials and tribulations of the breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons at this iconic landmark in Cobh in 2026. Come along and meet branch members and local volunteers who put so much work into this project. Learn of the breeding success and fledging, the food deliveries and daily lives of these extraordinary creatures played out above our heads as we go about our everyday lives

📣 Shingles vaccination: Minister commits to extending free access to people aged 65 and over through a five-year rollout 📣

At today’s post-budget health briefing, Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD outlined a five-year shingles vaccination programme, beginning in June 2027 with people who are immunocompromised, followed by people aged 80 and over, and progressively extending access down to those aged 65 and over.

Active Retirement Ireland welcomes this commitment and thanks the Minister for progressing publicly funded access to shingles vaccination.

Our petition carried 31,196 signatures calling for free access for everyone aged 65 and over. Thank you to everyone who signed, shared their experiences and supported the campaign.

We know many members want access sooner. We await the precise eligibility criteria and timetable for each age group, and will continue pressing for accessible and equitable delivery.

Our members raised their voices and we will keep working to turn this commitment into access.
