We are delighted to have Comyn Kelleher Tobin LLP as the sponsor of the 'Nearest to pin & Longest drive' competition for this year's Dr Con Murphy Charity Golf Classic. Thank you to CKT for supporting the charity's goal of 'Saving & Changing Lives'.

Funds from the Golf classic support projects such as the Comfort Care Rooms & Family Rooms across CUH. The Comfort Care Suite was designed for privacy and quiet, helping to ease a difficult process. By supporting, you help create and maintain compassionate spaces that go far beyond standard hospital care.

Do you want to take on a challenge? ๐Ÿข๐Ÿƒ

Sub-officer Niall ร“ Crualaoich is asking the public to join him in a race to the top of Cork County Hall on August 30, to raise funds for CUH Charity.

This is the first of its kind in Ireland. Stairs running is growing in popularity in Europe but hasn't been done in Ireland on a fundraising level yet. You can be one of the first to take part.

You can read more about the event here: https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/cork-fireman-51-organising-irelands-first-tower-run-in-aid-of-cuh/a/159797376.html

A revolutionary new piece of equipment for Children's Services!

Thanks to you, our amazing donors we have purchased several Smileyscopes for Paediatrics all across CUH.

These interactive VR headsets help to reduce anxiety and pain for children when undergoing clinics. Whether they are afraid of needles or nervous of MRI's the Smileyscope helps to Reduce pain by up to 60% Reduce anxiety by up to 40% Avoid sedation in up to 92% of patients 95% of clinicians say procedures are easier

The tailored videos can be programmed by age to best suit the child's experience, helping make procedures, quicker, safer, and easier for the children, the staff and the parents. Faster procedures also means more children can be seen and will help benefit the clinics across the board.

Thank you so much to everyone who supports us, helping make improvements like this possible. If you would like to donate, please follow the link: https://www.cuhcharity.ie/donate/

You never know where fundraising will take you next...

We have been supported by schools, families, companies and so many more. Everyone has a connection and everyone has a story and reason why CUH/CUMH means so much to them.

We were visited by these amazing people and shared in their stories -

The Coleman family returned to CUMH to present a cheque to staff following their 'Run for Fionn' during the Cork City Marathon. Fionn was born at just 25 weeks and 5 days and the staff that cared for him were all eager to meet the little man again.
Nathan O'Connell took on the massive challenge of the Connemara Ultramarathon in memory of his beloved Grandfather, Dermot. He was inspired to take on the 63.2km race by Dermot's words, "Keep the bright side out and give it the full lash."
The students of Coachford held a fundraiser to support Children's Services in CUH. Giving back to the kids who might be missing school and friends while in hospital. They raised โ‚ฌ500 for the Paediatric Services Units across CUH.
Kathy Galvin took on the massive Cork to Paris cycle challenge last year and held several fundraising efforts across the year. She visited the staff of the Dunmanway Day Unit who have supported her and so many over the years.
Crew of the Lร‰ William Butler Yeats joined us in CUH to present their cheque for Paediatric Care. Over several months the ships crew help a wide range of events to raise funds for the children of Cork, giving back to the community on top of the service in the Navy.

Thank you to all of these inspiring people who have done so much for the charity, and to all those who helped them all the way. If you would like to support CUH Charity and fundraise for vital services in CUH & CUMH, visit our website

Antoinette was nearly finished building their dream house with her husband and three kids, when she discovered something...

Following a night of celebration they noticed a lump. Fearing the worst, she went to her GP and was referred the the Breast Cancer Clinic in CUH for assessment. They confirmed her fears, she had breast cancer.

Antoinette received world class treatment, undergoing surgery and 9 months of chemotherapy, under the care of consultants Norma Relihan and Mark Corrigan. Her attitude always one of resilience.

I thought, โ€œI can do nine months. Nine months is a pregnancy, so Iโ€™ll count this as I counted my pregnancies, count up to 20 and down to 40.โ€

Antoinette discussed how something simple like a cup of tea from a staff member was always a small gesture that meant so much. CUH Breast Cancer Services has world class staff and equipment but it was the small human moments that stood out. In the hard times all we can do is be there for each other.

"Thereโ€™s always something we can do to care for each other, isnโ€™t there?"

Antoinette was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene mutation. Which is one of the forms of breast cancer that the Cancer Prevention Programme can help to detect. She is now taking measures to prevent further risk to herself and members of her family based on the results of the Cancer Prevention screenings.
