APHCI were pleased to meet with Minister Darragh O’Brien to discuss the vital role of the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors Ireland in Ireland’s evolving energy discussion.

We highlighted the importance of the strengthening engagement with Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) to help identify practical solutions to key challenges within the retrofit sector, ensuring programmes are deliverable, workforce-ready and grounded in on-the-ground experience.

It was a constructive and positive engagement, highlighting how plumbing and heating contractors are central to delivering safe, high-quality energy solutions on the ground. We discussed the importance of robust regulation, continuous training, and clear standards to support contractors as Ireland scales up retrofit activity and transitions to low-carbon heating systems. APHCI is ready to meet its obligations in reaching Government climate targets, working in partnership with policymakers and industry.

APHCI Chair Pat Jordan
“Contractors are on the frontline of Ireland’s energy transition. Safety, skills and proper regulation must remain central to retrofit delivery, protecting households, installers and public investment.”

We look forward to continued collaboration with the Minister and Government as trusted partners in shaping a practical, safety-first and skills-led pathway to Ireland’s energy future.

⚠️ Public Safety Notice – Tucson Circulating Pump Recall

The Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors Ireland (APHCI) is issuing an urgent safety advisory following today’s announcement from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) regarding a serious electrical safety risk linked to over 114,000 Tucson circulating pumps installed in Irish homes and businesses.

The affected pumps — Tucson 5m, 6m, and 8m models manufactured between 2017 and 2024 — may have an electrical fault that could lead to a risk of electrocution if the mains cable has been connected in reverse.

Public safety is the Association’s highest concern. We strongly echo the CCPC’s advice:
• Do not touch, disconnect, adjust, or attempt to service any Tucson pump yourself.
• Heating systems may continue to operate as normal, but no one should handle or open the affected unit.
• Check the pump visually — without touching it — for the Tucson brand name and serial number.
• Serial numbers beginning with S/N A, S/N B, S/N C, S/N D44 or earlier, or S/N 2017–2020 must be replaced.

The manufacturer, Tucson Pumps, has launched a nationwide free replacement programme. Consumers can arrange a replacement through an approved Tucson technician or service agent.

If you are unsure about the safety of your heating system or need help identifying or replacing an affected unit, contact your nearest -registered plumbing and heating contractor. Our members are fully qualified, insured, and trained to carry out all works safely and in compliance with national standards.
