Cork City Public Participation Network

A network of 200+ community & voluntary, social inclusion, and environmental groups. Every local authority in Ireland is required to have a PPN.

Our PPN is designed to encourage the city’s many communities to contribute to the making and implementing of decisions and policies which impact upon them and the areas where they live. The PPN is also an important tool for the City Council to keep in touch with communities. So, not only will PPN representatives go to City Hall to have the voices of the network heard, Cork City Council will also c

all on the PPN to elect persons from its membership when input is required. The network will also work to anticipate policy being developed by the Council and ensure that our members can participate in this process and influence the outcome. Our membership has a wealth of combined knowledge and expertise and the network will do all it can to make sure that this is taken into account by our elected representatives and policy makers. The PPN will also work hard to help member organisations to achieve their objectives. This might mean creating opportunities for peer to peer support and learning, organising training in grant applications, using social media or fundraising or holding themed events to raise public awareness around a certain issue. The great strength of our network lies in our membership. By joining up, you will meet committed people from across the community, volunteer, social inclusion and environmental sectors, learn from them and share your experiences and knowledge.

: Draft National Strategy for Improving Community Safety

The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration has published a draft national strategy for improving community safety - “An Enabling Framework for Community Safety. The strategy aims to respond to the needs and concerns of communities and help public services and communities work together in a joined-up way to make communities safer.

This survey is open to anyone living in Ireland. The views and opinions collected will be considered and used to inform the further development of the strategy.

Proposed New Public Park for Glanmire Area

Glanmire Park is a proposed new public park that will complement the John O’Callaghan Park and the Glanmire Greenway Network. The completion of the greenway and two new pedestrian and cycle bridges over the Butlerstown and Glashaboy Rivers will expand the local recreation and amenity facilities.

Glanmire Park is being designed to transform riverside lands into a welcoming destination for play, recreation, active travel, biodiversity and community wellbeing, while strengthening connections to the new greenway and surrounding neighbourhoods. Submissions and observations in relation to it are currently open.

Annual Cork Volunteer Centre Awards

Do you know an outstanding volunteer who deserves recognition?

This year, awards will be presented across 10 categories:
- Volunteer of the Year – North Cork
- Volunteer of the Year – East Cork
- Volunteer of the Year – West Cork
- Volunteer of the Year – North City
- Volunteer of the Year – South City
- Youth Volunteer of the Year (Under 18)
- Student Volunteer of the Year (Third Level)
- Board Member of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Volunteer Coordinator of the Year (Unpaid)

Closing Date: 28 August

All nominees will receive a Thank You postcard from the Cork Volunteer Centre in recognition of their contribution to the community, while one winner will be selected in each category.

: Energy For Generations Fund

The ESB Energy for Generations Fund disburses €1 million per year across a range of community and issues-based initiatives to charities working in the areas of social inclusion relating to access to education, access to employment, and homelessness.

The fund supports actions consistent with their purpose and values, advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering social inclusion.

: Community Media Scheme

The Coimisiún na Meán Community Media Scheme aims to support a sustainable, inclusive and participative community media sector that delivers social benefit for communities across Ireland.

The fund is open to existing licensed community television and radio broadcasters across Ireland. Funding can be provided for activities including training, community outreach and the advancement of the Irish language, and initiatives that support inclusivity and accessibility.

Funding: Biodiv’Sport Grant Programme 2026

Play For Nature will provide technical and up to €5000 financial support to associations that carry out biodiversity conservation projects. This edition funds projects combining sport and biodiversity conservation objective as well as the awareness of the local populations concerned by the project.

The Minister for Children, Disability & Equality has launched a public consultation to inform the review of the Disability Act 2005. Have your say and help shape the future of disability policy in Ireland.

Disabled people, families, carers and representative organisations are invited to share their views and experiences. Accessible formats include Braille, ISL, Easy-to-Read, audio and video submissions.

: Update to the Climate Action Plan – Climate Priorities

The Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment has launched a public consultation to support and inform the preparation of the next update to the Climate Action Plan.

The annual update to the climate action plan is an opportunity to reflect on progress to date and to set out new implementation approaches, measures and actions that can build on the existing programmes to accelerate Ireland closer to its target trajectory.
