UP Cork LGBT Youth Project

UP Cork LGBT Youth Project 'UP Cork' is a youth project for le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender & questioning (LGBTQ) young people aged 15-23 years. The group meets on a weekly basis.

The project provides one-to-one and group support to allow LGBTQ young people to safely engage with confidence building, personal development, peer support and making friends. It also affords young people a space where they can experience inclusion, acceptance, social justice, fun and safety. Programme activities to date have included a series of short-term projects such as drama, self-defence, dr

ug awareness, mental health / peer support and come dine with me. We also have long-term projects such as the rap project and the youth exchange programme. The group has regular events and activities including Christmas and Halloween parties, film and games nights and day trips. Some day trips to date have included visits to Trabolgan, the Mitchelstown Caves, Nightmare Realm, Leisureplex, ice-skating, horse riding, the cinema and much more. We also have weekend residential trips where we network with other youth groups around the country.

Today is the day!
‼️ SIGN THE ECI ✍🏻

For International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), LGBTI+ organisations from all over the EU are launching a European Citizens’ Initiative to ban conversion therapy in the EU.

This is a chance for our community, friends, family and allies to use their voice in protecting the safety and well-being of all LGBTI+ EU citizens. From today, we have one year to gather one million signatures to ban conversion practices in the European Union with 9000 needed specifically from Ireland.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Click the following link to sign the initiative and share it with your friends 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

— What is an ECI?
📌 An European Citizens’ Initiative is the only tool of participatory democracy in the European Union. When the goal of one million signatures is reached, the European Commission will have to answer our request!

— What are conversion practices?
📌 Also known as “conversion therapy”, conversion practices are human-rights-violating interventions aimed at changing the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBTQI+ people.

— How can you help?
📌 Sign the ECI in the link in bio, share the initiative with your friends and family, repost on your stories, talk about it with the people around you!

Together we will ban conversion practices across the EU.

Spent a great morning listening to inspiring young people speak about their experiences with autism and education. Busting myths, brainstorming ideas on comfortable spaces and how small things can make a difference.

A big thank you to Damien, Trend Micro, for inviting us and giving us the space to share our LGBTQIA+ stories, to bring awareness that although Ireland came a long way, there is still much more to do. A big thank you for the very generous donation to support UP Cork and the work we do!
