TVG sends a clear message of solidarity and support to Senator Eileen Flynn.

The work and dedication of Eileen has been longstanding and a massive support for the community and human rights for all. Eileen was nominated by the Taoiseach to become a Senator and she became the first Irish Traveller in the state to enter the Seanad in June 2020.

Eileen has faced many challenges both as a standing senator but also the racism she faces being an Irish Traveller. Her emphasis on human rights, racial justice and equity is a reflection on her strong stance on eliminating structural inequalities.

The recent online attacks towards Eileen was deeply concerning and unacceptable. The racist slurs, the attacking of a minority woman has no place in Ireland and we stand in solidarity with her and hope that she continues to thrive towards a fair and equal Ireland for all including Irish Travellers.
