A huge well done to our incredible staff and volunteers across the Cork region who completed their ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) last week!

At YMCA Ireland, we are committed to showing up for our community, and that starts with having the right skills to support those in need. A massive thank you to LivingWorks for the expert delivery and to the HSE for funding this important training.

We are delighted to share that YMCA Cork has received a €1,000 Heritage Grant from the Cork Heritage Officer and The Heritage Council — and we extend our sincere thanks for their generous support.

This funding has enabled us to purchase highly specialised, conservation-grade storage boxes to protect our remarkable heritage collection. Since 1886, the YMCA has been part of Cork’s social fabric, and our Victorian red-brick building has served young people and their families for over 130 years. Our archives include Minute Books dating back to the 1890s, historic photographs, original building plans, posters, and detailed departmental records — an invaluable record of community history.

Thanks to the grant, we sourced custom-made, museum-quality boxes from Beskid Plus in Poland, each crafted to our exact measurements using precision laser-cutting. A total of 44 archival boxes, 17 photographic pockets, and 87 document folders have now arrived in Cork, ensuring every item — from our earliest Minute Books to delicate photographs — is safely preserved for generations to come.

We are deeply grateful for this support in safeguarding our past while we continue to serve the community into the future.

We are delighted to have been awarded 25,000e from The Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2024 for the repair of the side wall and facade at our Cork City location on Marlboro Street. The renovation is scheduled to begin in mid-August and is expected to take six weeks.

Recognized for its architectural, historical, artistic, and social significance, dating back to the late 1800s - the YMCA building in Cork City is a Protected Structure. Having been a cornerstone for the youth of Cork, providing vital services since the 1980s, we have been running government-sponsored programs for the city's most vulnerable young people, offering crucial support to hundreds from diverse backgrounds. The building is fundamental to our mission.

Supported by the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2024.

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from the YMCA in Cork City!

Thanks to a €25,000 grant from The Heritage Council , we’ve begun vital renovations on the left gabled bay of our building, including the iconic YMCA letters above the main door. This essential work will repair weather-damaged bricks and terracotta, ensuring our historic building stands strong for generations to come. We expect completion by the end of November!

In addition, a €1,000 grant is enabling us to safeguard our rich history. We’re investing in specialized archival storage for our collection of heritage documents, photos, and books, some dating back to the 1890s! This ensures the stories of the YMCA in Cork, from its early days to the present, are preserved with care.
