๐Ÿš‘ CFR Training on Glanmireโ€™s New Greenway ๐Ÿš‘

Tonight, Glanmire Community First Responders, together with our colleagues from Watergrasshill Community First Responders, took to Glanmireโ€™s new Greenway for a very successful evening of practical scenario-based training.

Our volunteers worked in 4 groups, responding to a range of realistic scenarios including chest pain, choking, cardiac arrest and stroke. It was great to see both groups working so well together, sharing their experience and supporting one another throughout the evening.

A huge thank you to our instructors, Ellmary, Dan, and Paul and John for organising and running the scenarios, and a special thank you to our colleague Alan Coughlan from the National Ambulance Service, who joined us and provided invaluable advice, guidance and expertise to our volunteers.

Weโ€™d also like to thank our fantastic patients for the evening โ€” Sinead, Edel, Brian and Ger โ€” for getting involved and helping make the scenarios as realistic as possible.

We started training in bright evening conditions, but it certainly didnโ€™t take long for darkness to fall, adding another realistic challenge for our responders working outdoors.

There was plenty of experience, teamwork and learning on display tonight. These training sessions are so important in helping our volunteers maintain their skills and prepare for the situations they may face when responding within our communities.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who gave up their evening to come along, train and learn together.

โค๏ธ Our communities are in great hands with the dedicated volunteers we have.

Have you an AED ??

๐Ÿš‘ A National AED Registry is coming to Ireland ๐Ÿš‘

The National Ambulance Service (NAS) is developing a national registry of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This will allow emergency call-takers to provide members of the public with up-to-date information on the location of the nearest AED when it is needed most.

To make this initiative successful, it is essential that every AED is registered, regardless of where it is located:

โœ… Indoor or outdoor
โœ… Office, workplace, school, sports club, or community facility
โœ… Publicly accessible or restricted access
โœ… Available 24/7 or only during business hours

Every registered AED could help save a life by ensuring it can be quickly identified and located during a cardiac emergency.

If you are responsible for an AED, please take a few minutes to register it using the link below and help us build a complete national database:

๐Ÿ”— Register an AED https://surveys.hse.ie/t/aed_form

As part of this initiative, we will also be updating AEDs within our community that are registered. Registered AED locations will receive a sticker to help identify them as part of the national registry programme.

Please also share this post to help spread the word and ensure no AED is left off the registry. โค๏ธ

We would like to wish Linda and friends all the best in the mini marathon this weekend. Every year Linda chooses us as her charity to support and we are so grateful. Many thanks to her and her friends. Should you wish to donate I have added a photo of the QR code. Thanks so much.

Congratulations to Our New PHECC Accredited Emergency First Responders

A huge congratulations to Karen Fleming, Kelly Condon and Bindu Theratile on recently successfully completing and passing their PHECC-accredited Emergency First Responder (EFR) qualification.

This is a fantastic achievement and one that deserves to be celebrated, not only by the individuals themselves, but by the entire Community First Responder Group and the wider community.

Becoming a PHECC-accredited Emergency First Responder requires commitment, dedication and a willingness to develop the skills needed to potentially make a real difference when someone is experiencing a medical emergency. Karen, Kelly and Bindu have demonstrated that commitment and can now bring their newly developed knowledge and skills to the community.

Strengthening Our Community Response

Community First Responders play a vital role in the chain of survival. When an emergency call is made, every minute can matter. While the emergency services are on their way, trained local responders can provide valuable early intervention and reassurance to patients and their families.

Having three newly qualified EFRs within the group strengthens our ability to respond when our community needs us most. It also adds to the experience, knowledge and resilience of the existing team.

For the wider community, this means more trained people who are prepared to step forward, respond to emergencies and provide appropriate assistance until further medical help arrives.

A Commitment to the Community

Choosing to become a Community First Responder is about much more than completing a course. It is a commitment to helping neighbours, friends, families and members of the wider community during some of their most difficult and frightening moments.

Karen, Kelly and Bindu have shown that they are willing to make that commitment, and their achievement is a wonderful example of the community spirit that makes Community First Responder groups so important.

Their success also demonstrates the importance of continued training and development within the group. As more members gain recognised qualifications and build their confidence and experience, the group becomes even better equipped to support the community.

Well Done!

On behalf of the Community First Responder Group, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Karen Fleming, Kelly Condon and Bindu Theratile on this excellent achievement.

Your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to seeing you put your new skills into practice as part of the team.

Well done, Karen, Kelly and Bindu โ€” and congratulations on becoming PHECC-accredited Emergency First Responders!

Your achievement is a success for you personally, for the Community First Responder Group, and for the wider community you have chosen to serve.
