All-Ireland Mahjong

One month ago already?! 🥲🀄

A little flashback to the Irish Riichi Championship 2026.

It wasn’t just about what happened at the tables – it was the chats between games, familiar faces and new ones, the little gifts and surprises, and just having so many mahjong people together in one place. ❤️

Also, the official EMA Observer Report is now out! A huge thank you to George Twigg for volunteering to be our EMA observer and for taking the time to put together such a detailed report. We really appreciate it. 🫶

Still very happy (and slightly relieved 😂) that we pulled this off.

Thank you again to everyone who travelled, played, helped, refereed, photographed and made the weekend what it was.

Here are some more moments from the tournament that we didn’t get to share last time 📸

See you at the next one! 🀄🇮🇪

A big step forward for Riichi Mahjong in Ireland! 🀄🇮🇪

Yesterday, five participants took part in the EMA Riichi Referee Seminar in Cork, presented by Simon Picard.

After a full day covering rules, regulations, referee practice and tournament situations, participants put their knowledge to the test in the referee certification exam.

Congratulations to Martin Schleimer and Jiang (Jeff) Zhu, who passed the exam and are now officially certified EMA Riichi referees! 👏🎉

This brings Ireland’s total to three certified Riichi referees – another milestone for our growing competitive Mahjong community. 🇮🇪🀄

And a big well done to all five participants for taking on the seminar and exam, and for helping strengthen refereeing and tournament standards in Ireland.

A landmark week for international riichi mahjong!

The M.LEAGUE x World Riichi U.S. Tour begins this week, bringing some of Japan’s leading professional mahjong athletes to Las Vegas and New York City for a historic multi-city event.

Alongside the tour, World Riichi is proud to announce two major developments for the global game:

📘 The launch of World Riichi Publishing, beginning with English translations of strategy books by Kotaro Uchikawa and Yoshihiro Matsumoto.

For many years, language has been one of the greatest barriers between international players and the depth of riichi mahjong theory outside of Japan.

Through World Riichi Publishing, we hope to license and make high-level mahjong strategy content accessible to players around the world.

This is just an exciting first step. The next step is for players to read these books, absorb the information and take it out there to win more tournaments!

So it's over to you all! (And keep an eye out for my titles to be announced shortly...)
