This November Cork ARC are focusing on Men's Health Awareness, as both Prostate cancer and International Men's Health Day are highlighted during this particular month.

We are asking you all to focus on hair for this month, and either dye it, grow it or shave it (or all three!) - all in aid of Cork ARC Cancer Support House.

How do you get involved?

Create your own fundraising page to link to our event page and then go and spread the word with your friends, family and colleagues. They can either join in themselves by creating their own page or, support you on your own venture.

Katrina from Cork ARC was delighted to catch up with the Activator Pole facilitators and, some of the attendees of the weekly activator pole walks recently.

Held at Tramore Valley Park, these walks are overseen by volunteers who are trained facilitators for the correct use of Activator poles.

Interested? After taking part in a taster session, you will be invited to join the weekly group and can attend as/when you are available!

ACTIVATOR™️ Poles were designed specifically for rehab by an occupational therapist.
Walking with these specific poles helps improve stability, reduces impact on hip and knee joints, improves core strength and posture, and helps promote a functional gait pattern.
As well as walking with the poles, they can support you while taking part in specific exercises that can additionally help assist with balance and joint mobility.
This is a great way to exercise, get fresh air and also connect by having a cuppa afterwards!

Huge thanks to John P. Foley for coming to Cork ARC House represent Sunday's Well RFC in making a presentation to Jenny and the team at Cork ARC Cancer Support House. The donation was raised through the club's Ladies' Lunch held in April, where John shared his personal journey and the support he received from Cork ARC during a difficult time. The club would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the event, helping us support the outstanding work carried out by Cork ARC for individuals and families across our community. 💙🏉

The Cork County Boxing Board will be taking on Louth County Board headed up by IABA President Anto Donnelly at Na Piarsaigh sports Complex on Saturday 24th October at 4 pm. All proceeds from the event and a GoFundMePage will be split between Cork ARC Cancer Support House and Ronald MacDonald House - charities that are particularly close to the hearts of two of the Cork County coaches.

We are deeply grateful and look forward to the big day on October 24th.

This is more than a boxing event. It’s a fight for a cause that means something deeply personal to two members of our boxing community.
Peter Higgins, coach at Mayfield Boxing Club, and Patrick Fitzgibbon, coach at Muskerry Boxing Club, have both been directly affected by cancer. For this fundraiser, each has chosen a charity that holds a special place in their hearts.
Peter has chosen The Cork ARC Cancer Support House, supporting people and families affected by cancer.

Patrick has chosen Ronald McDonald House in Crumlin, providing a place of support and comfort for families whose children are receiving serious medical treatment.

On the night, our boxers will step between the ropes and give everything they have. But this time, the fight represents something bigger than winning or losing.
It’s about standing together, supporting families, raising awareness and giving back to two incredible charities.

One ring. Two teams. Two charities. One powerful cause.
Every ticket, donation, share and bit of support will help us make this fundraiser a success.

Thanks to the Earlswell Boys! They worked together doing gardening and tidying chores around their estate to raise a whopping €250 for Cork ARC. This November, we are asking you to STEP UP for Cork ARC Cancer Support House. Whether you are a walker, runner, or hiker - we would like you to commit to taking a set amount of steps every day during the month to raise awareness for Lung Cancer and funds to help support those dealing with a diagnosis.

How it works:

- Walk, run, or move your way to a personal or team step goal this November – whether it's 5,000, 10,000, or more steps per day.
- Track your steps using a fitness app or smartwatch.
- Ask friends and family to sponsor you - they can donate per step, per kilometre, or give a flat amount.

What happens after your cancer treatment? There is so much more to a cancer diagnosis cancer that what happens in clinical settings. Let's learn together how to THRIVE.

No enrolling for Cancer Thriving and Surviving Six Week Programme at Cork ARC Cancer Support House:

How is the programme taught?
• Workshops are taught in a relaxed and friendly environment of 10-16 participants
• This shared support builds your confidence in your ability to manage your health
and maintain an active and fulfilling life
• Participants take an active role in the workshops by setting their own
weekly goals

Programme details
• FREE of charge
• At a location near you
• One class a week for 6 weeks
• Led by health professionals and cancer survivors who have taken special training
• 2½ hour sessions

What will you learn?
Techniques to deal with problems such as:
• Getting better sleep
• Nutrition
• Managing frustration, fatigue or pain
• Setting priorities
• Making decisions about treatment
• Relationships
• Communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals
• Regaining and maintaining physical flexibility and endurance

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month.

- Approximately 300 new cases of liver cancer are diagnosed annually in Ireland.
- The National Cancer Registry of Ireland reported a 300% increase in liver cancer over the last decade.
- Liver cancer is among the top causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and the burden continues to rise.

Thank You for Making Our 10th Annual Gala Dinner Such a Success!

A week ago was the 10th Cork ARC Annual Gala Dinner, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible sponsors, prize donors, supporters, guests, and volunteers who helped make it such a memorable and successful evening.

- In Ireland, we have 3,600 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed each year.
- Only 5%-10% of breast cancer cases are hereditary.
