530 days have now passed since Irish Rail effectively torpedoed the Collooney-Bellaghy Greenway Project.

The closing date for submissions on the public consultation was December 20th 2024.

Irish Rail submitted its letter minutes before the close of business deadline. The submission letter was signed by its CEO, who was actually going to be retiring in less than a few months !!!!! Believe it or Not.

Worse still, he had previously supported the idea, and on the back of this support, nearly 1.4 million euros had been spent on development works. If he hadn't have previously given his support, that 1.4 million in grants would obviously never have been approved

1 - Why did he change his mind, effectively on his 'career death bed', cause calling a spade a spade, that's what it was.

2- Why did he leave no clear plan as to when and how the alternative of reopening the railway might happen.

530 days of 'nothingness', punctuated only by certain local politicans and journalists jockeying for position and trying to appear relevant with repeated Facebook posts calling for 'reopen the Western Rail Corridor'.

Let's make one thing clear, a railway or greenway happening will not be determined by the number of Facebook posts that either side makes.

The only thing certain right now is that nothing is going to happen until at least 2050, anything different that Minister Sean Canney tells you is basically nonsense.

Q- Why did he cancel his trip to the site of the old Station in Tubbercurry??.

A- he had no good news to tell

An appalling debacle

And so the deception continues.... !!

Irish Rail has updated its development plan. It's 60 pages long, but you can avoid pages 1 - 55 and go straight to the summary table on page 56.

"West on Track", Minister Canney as well as certain Sligo politicans and political groupings were confidently (cough cough) telling people that Athenry-Claremorris would be open by 2030 and thereafter Claremorris-Collooney would follow.

Athenry-Claremorris will now not even start being developed until 2040 and no mention of Collooney-Claremorris thereafter

It's getting close to that time of year again.

Over 1500 hikers will enter the village from the left ( site of the planned SLNCR Greenway), and this bed will be one of the first sights they'll see.

Have to have our Sunday best on.

A quick post to acknowledge one of the very first local people to throw a few euros behind the campaign, Willie Gallagher & his business WG Industrial Paints. .

Willie was turning his hand to making a few pound back in the late 90s when other lads of his age wouldn't get out of bed before noon.

Our very first St Patrick's Day Parade entry was made easier when Willie got us custom made Bibs.

A local lad who gives it his best every day. Thanks Willie a fans

Looking forward to the next round of Public Consultations on the continuing project evolution of the Collooney-Enniskillen Greenway.

Where remnants of the SLNCR are still visible, such as at Collooney 'North', they should be sensitively restored and repurposed.

We don't want just another car park

Absolutely no reason why the proposed SLNCR trailhead at Union Road cannot be extended directly into the village by way of a boardwalk and then on other side of the bridge by refurbishment of the path alongside Mill Falls

Proper connectivity to the station is crucial for the village, not just in its own right as a Health & Safety consideration for its inhabitants, but also to maximise the impact for both the SLNCR and ( we still believe in) the Sligo Greenway

Local representative Councillor Thomas Walsh fully supports us and will formally raise this issue at the Municipal District Council meeting, but we need to do our part too

Let's get these 500 signatures
